Ok I am in a weird position. Me and my good friend both broke up with our girlfriends roughly around the same time, and he said they were "done for good" and keeps telling me about this other chick he is trying to get with, now here is the problem I have always secretly liked his ex and after I heard they broke up I started to talk to her and eventually ended up hanging out with her and hugging/kissing stuff like that, now we are just talking at the moment, but I was wondering does this violate like any friend laws or something? I mean they just broke up less than a week ago, but I really like this girl, but I don't want to loose a friend!

but wouldnt you rather be with some random guy so you could hate him... and not hate your friend? you dont want to LIKE you ex's next boyfriend. in my opinion its worse to have it someone you know
this might sound cold but chances are you aren't going to know either of them, or have them in your life forever, which should give you some perspective if its going to be an issue and chances are no matter what he says it will be, you have to choose who your going to want in your life the longest. Picking the girl will put a wedge in the friendship even if its just because he or the girl feels awkward

dude, even if your friend says it's over between them, it's still a no-no considering the fact that it's only been less than a week? for all you know, their broke up could only have been a spur of the moment type of thing. so, they might get back at it anytime soon - and already, you've kissed her and all that. i think your friend doesn't need enemies with pals like you. congrattis. :D
Is a girl worth losing your friend over? Chances are you wont get the girl and you'd lose your friend.. theres a reason why you don't go for friends ex's.
If you really care about this friend of yours, then confront him. Tell him how you feel, maybe he'll be ok with it. After all, he did say it was over, right?
