For those of you who don't know what affirmative action is, I will give you the basic definition:
Affirmative Action is something developed in the '60s or '70s...maybe '50s....ANYways, here is what it says:
Basically colleges (I don't know which or if it applies to all) have to have a certain percentage of students that are a certain race at their school. So here is just an example: 20% White, 20% Black, 20% Hispanic, 10% Asian, 10% Middle Eastern, 20% other...
So sometimes this will happen:
A hispanic guy is REALLY qualified to go to a school, however the school has met their quota. So their is an african-american who is qualified, but not nearly as much as the hispanic guy. The school needs more african-americans, so they take the african-american instead.
This scenario happens alot in the U.S.A.
Do you think this is okay, or should their be a change.
In my opinion, it shouldn't be divided by race, rather than the financial health of the person. Let's replace the hispanic in my scenario with a very rich person, and the african-american with a very poor person. I believe the poor person should go.
