I shut it down if I leave for more than an hour. My computer won't sleep anymore, because it's vista and vista is the fetal alcohol syndrome baby in health class.

To keep hibernating your computer is the worst thing ever. It becomes so slow and it starts to act up. I always shut down unless I know I'll be using it in the next hour or so.

I leave mine on. I only shut it down once every 1 to 2 weeks. I have a Mac and macs do system maintenance automatically at around 3am in the morning. You can start the maintenance manually or even change when its down but I just leave it on so it can do what it do. Also I often fall asleep watching videos on or on skype, so I wouldnt be able to shut it down anyway if Im falling asleep.

I turn it on in the morning or when ever I get home and I shut it down when I go to bed, I pretty much have to shut it down because the blue LEDs on my case will keep me up at night. I don't really know what sleep/hibernate mode does TBH.

Shut it down when I'm gone for the most of day (work usually). It stays on during the night though, good for finishing downloads and such.

I dhut it down at night. When I am on a job, I unplug everything that my PC is plugged into as well as other vampires. I can have $30 power bills while others have $100+.

Less the £10 a week power usage here. I live by myself so that helps and I tend not to have to use the heating as my PC room is small and with me, the pc, 2 monitors etc it heats itself up and I tend not to use other rooms other then the bathroom when I am in the flat and awake.

dem 100 watts o no
1 100 watt incandescent
and if ur using a laptop on 24/7 it uses like 25 watts

also a tv in standby probably uses around 5 watts, that is absolutely nothing

a mcirowave uses like 1000watts

Yeah, and a computer in sleep mode might use a couple of watts at most. An electric toothbrush charger pulls more.

So if 1000 people do it.......100,000.......1m people.....over a year......it all adds up. its all wasted pointlessly. My Microwave turns itself off after 20 mins. The only things in my flat that's on all the time is the fridge/freezer and my bedside alarm clock.

Most of how we generate it is. Gas, Coal, Oil......finite things. Untill we can generate it from other means safely and constantly it is not something to forget about.

Usually I just get too tired and fall asleep without bothering.
