everyone is nice and mature in college, unlike in high school. I guess so. skullkrusher13
I thought they would be, but do you have more of a chance to do things with others, like hang out and such.

Common misconception, most of them still haven't grown up and there are still the same "cool kids" etc...pisses me right off. Sometimes i just think "wtf am i doing here"Â

theres always gonna be people like that, I haven't encountered much of those people, like frat boys etc. I should have added "in my college" to my post.
I would say so you'd be surprised at how much beer can make you social around a bunch of people you dont know. that is how i met 9/10 of my freinds in college at parties and stuff.dw32005
I'll be going to a community college, so I doubt there i'll be much of that.Â

This is true as well, though it isn't a bad thing, imo.[QUOTE="skullkrusher13"]everyone is nice and mature in college, unlike in high school. I guess so. volgin_101

I mean, have fun off of campus. Of course edutcation will be my number one priority, but i'd like to have some fun as well. I'm not too sure if i'll be living on campus though, since I live close to home.Â
Come to school in Ohio
OU and OSU are two of the biggest party colleges in the nation
OU got in the top 10 party schools in Playboy magazine,
and iirc, Playboy said they don't compare professionals(OSU) to ametures. Â
Is it easier to be more social when in college, or is it about the same as high school?volgin_101
Same, pretty much. You're more likely to find your own clique in college, but you still have to make an effort.Â
how easy is to get um "substances" in college?rrricdepends on the inherant legality of them. If they are legal for those over 21 then its easy.
May be a bit more difficult to get your hands on illegal substances, but you still could i'd assume.Â

Is it easier to be more social when in college, or is it about the same as high school?volgin_101Well its way easier to be yourself. Yes, there are people who will have that high school attitude, but there will be way more people who are just like you. Safety in numbers!
If you were unsocal in high school, you will be in college too. Even moreso, because there isn't any much forced groupwork that makes you get acquainted with people. Yet on the other hand there arent cliques, so you will get along with everyone in a strange neutral and informal way.
Unless you are a crazy frat boy or you live in a very crowded dorm. Which if you are on GS, you likely won't.Yarcofin
I don't think of myself as unsocial, I just don't go out like most people my age do over the weekends.

it was a joke. you said that you lived close to your home, not to your school. a home is a place where you live, so it makes sense that you live close to it.

Right, I can't see how I could have messed up like that.

Depends on your situation. I go to a huge university, so I think it's easier. You never run into the same people generally, so there's no cliche's or anything, or a social ladder. Just everyone seems alot cooler in college. Not to say that there aren't pricks still... *cough*fratboys*cough*

Yes, if you must know, college would be a time to get your hands on some illicit substances and wreck your education. There are substances everywhere. Hell my in my neighbor's room. The real hardcore drug scenes are at Co-op's though (basically large houses shared by 10-12 students off campus.) In the dorms the penalty is too high, most people aren't stupid enough to do hardcore drugs on campus, just alcohol and pot (I would never do that on campus tho.)
Â
With that said, I don't condone or use illicit drugs anyway...Â

That was a quote about Penn State, not Ohio State...
"We cannot rank Penn State University against other schools in the party category because we feel it is unfair to rank professionals against amateurs" -Playboy
Â
The sad thing is that ther's no way to rate a party school. And the playboy arcticle (I just read it) makes frat parties sound like something they're not.
"Even if you're too shy to hook up with a stranger, grab a plastic cup and head to one of the dozens of frat parties being thrown on Thursday nights."
Umm if any of you have ever been to a frat party, they first don't let you in unless your group has a girl to guy ratio of 3 to 1, otherwise you might actually compromise their ability to find a drunk girl that doesn't care if she's you-know-what'ed. Then if you do get in, it's just a massive cockfight.
A good party is a dorm party or co-op party, off the record. You get a handful of friends and hang out. Sometimes it gets out of control, but it's never about picking up drunk chicks and taking advantage of them. It's just about hanging out and having fun.

I agree, and for that reason I'm not too big into the frat parties. The ideal type of party depends on the situation. Sometimes you just want a smaller thing with a bunch of your closest friends, and other times huge parties can be cool too. At a big school such as Penn State and a whole lot of other schools, you can have both depending on the type of mood you're in. If you want to study on a Friday night, thats a viable option to you and you will find others doing the same thing. If you want to go rockclimbing, thats a viable option for you, and again, you will find others doing the same thing. If you want to get drunk by noon on a Tuesday, that too is an option for you, and I'm sure that there will be other people who want to do the same thing. Going back on topic, I definately think it's easier to be social in college. Granted, you do need to make somewhat of an effort to get to know people, but for the most part, people don't worry too much about how 'cool' you are as long as you respect them. Â
Well my friends that went to a CC all pretty much thought it was just like high school especially if it's close to where you went to high school.
I really recomend against getting an apartment for CC when you live pretty close. Either commute and save up the cash you would be spending on an apartment, or get a loan and start off w/ the 4 year school.
There's also the option of looking at international schools. I found a bunch of colleges that had much lower tuition, and lower living expenses outside the US. If you can stand living really far away in a strange new place it's a great experience that is much better than college.
In general, people seem more open, and teachers really seem just like students. The relationship "can be" very great with classmates, you'll probably even have study groups out side of class a lot of the time.
But then there is me, i like to be alone and i haven't made any new friends, and i'm going on to my 2nd year in college. The friends i have are the ones i've had for most of my life.Â

Is it easier to be more social when in college, or is it about the same as high school?volgin_101I think less. In high school you are all struck there so you make the best of a bad situation and talk to people (like talking to your cellmate in prison), but in college everyone just does their own thing and doesn't really talk much. Which is fine by me cause I don't talk to people I don't know anyways.
In general I'd say yes if you stay in the dorms. Even so you have to make an effort to make it work.duxup
