Hi,
Maybe somenone knows AI softwares used in cinema such as MASSIVE in the Lord of the rings trilogy?
BTW: I do know that this site is for games but this is off-topic discussions.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
AI software? I always figured that kind of stuff was actually created by artists and/or performance capture, so all the so-called AI was in fact made by people, not just left up to a program.
Could be wrong though.

Do you mean CGI software... because AI doesn't exist, unless you mean complex scripting.Thats CGI (computer generated image)I am talking about software which generates visual effects.

AI is something completely different
Its basic AI. Doesn't really do much. True AI hasn't been made yet. It wasn't facial recognition, more like face tracking which normally involves sticking white dots on everything and having cameras track their movements so animators can go ahead and put a face over what was tracked.then how do you describe MASSIVE?
I heard that there was used some kind of facial recognition software in avatar. Maybe someone knows it's name?
Shiennn
then how do you describe MASSIVE?

Yeah, it's called, "A whole studio and their proprietary software using a motion capture studio and an array of computers run by people." A long name I know, but there you have it.Most of the CGI programs, and/or performance capture programs that the various CGI houses use are programs unique to said houses. Hence why the quality of CGI varies from movie to movie, company to company. I'm sure you could probably find specific programs on Google though...
I will rephrase it. Could you tell me applications used in movies that would be responsable for facial recognition, objects generation ar etc.
Shiennn
From the looks of this seems like they used something called PF Track for motion cap and Zbrush (Which is an absolutely awesome program).
[QUOTE="Shiennn"]Generators of what? All current AI is "If this happens then do this". Just a massive web of "ifs". Correct me if Im wrong, but thats what I got out of my robotics course. He does not mean to ask about AI, but CGI. :PThen any other notible generators than CGI?
Iantheone
I have paper to write and the theme is AI technologies in special effects (movies). So I nead to write about software which is used to make it happen.
Can anyone tell me which ones (movie title included)?
Shiennn
The problem is that your paper makes no sense.
Its like making a paper and the theme is jet propulsion technologies in cars. Yes, both are related to engineering, but are unrelated technologies. There is no AI used in movies. The purpose of AI is to allow a computer to make intelligent decisions in real time. Movie special effects are NOT real-time (as they are added in later) so there is absolutely no need for AI.
This is why your question is confusing and doesn't make sense.
3D effects are created using any variety of 3d modellers. popular high-end modellers are Maya, 3D Studio Max, and XSI.Movies like Avatar and Pixar movies are created entirely in those applications.
2D effects and color corrections are added in with programs like Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, and Lightworks. Smoke and post-production are usually created in programs like these.
But crowd simulation is different because every agent can move different. Of course there is huge libraries of possible actions but still I am searching for something like that.
example Massive used in huge number of movies.
Shiennn
Crowd simulation is crowd simulation. Its not AI. AI is designed to interpret its environment (or ruleset) and create a decision to maximize its chance of success. There are no decisions to "maximize chance of success" in 3D renderings. Those are simply art tools.
