There are no double standards here. You need more than an uncorobborated account from the victim's sister to classify something as a hate crime. As the cops said, it's an assault case. Kudos should be given to the police department for their swift action into launching an investigation. Also, on the very positive note, Mr. Owens is still above ground.

If Trayvon's name was invoked, shame on the assailants. Let the boy rest in peace.

Dude, there's no evidence based on the article I just read(if there's more to it I don't know) to support a hate crime. Some kids ran and told their [ignorant] parents that some man was picking on them. Those parents assaulted said man. Only the victim's sister claims that a potentially racist comment was made. Now if other witnesses come out, or if someone with a camera emerges with the incident on tape and audio available, I can understand.

But based on what was presented in the full length Fox article, that's not enough.

That's not what I said. Btw, plenty of living white people are racists as well. What I implied is that whites already have been attacking blacks in this country to varying degrees. To be clear I'm not talking about all whites and all blacks. I'm not painting a broad brush.

I feel like the first would be incredibly stupid. It would be like punching a random Mexican just because Carlos Mencia sucks. Its not his fault Carlos Mencia sucks, he probably hates him too.

Likewise, if he was actually beat up for this, then the people who did the beating up are probably too stupid to understand the irony in them committing their own hate crime because of another unrelated hate crime to the one they were committing, and there's a chance it wasn't even a hate crime in the first place.

That said, I'm hoping this is just the media spinning things out of proportion and there was an actual reason this happened aside from that.

Given the vitriolic rhetoric that emerged from the Martin/Zimmerman incident, it's not really a surprise something like this occurred.
