The fact that Texas is one of the top increases did not surprise me, but I was surprised by Alaska. I wonder if this population growth is due to immigration into the state or just due to new births. I figure Alaska is too cold for many people to move their, but on the plus side there taxes are very low.
Also I find it worrying that D.C. had such a high population growth considering that it is not a state and I don't think it's a good idea for our nationality security to have people moving into large urban areas (one of the reasons the U.S. government promoted suburbanization in the Cold War years was that by getting people out of the cities and into the suburbs it would lessen the potential casualties if those big cities were attacked).
