Hi, i'm a teenager and i've never been drunk. I was just wandering, since i don't know a thing about alcohol, do you get stupider if you drink alot? I mean does alcohol affect your brain? Because it sertainly seems to do so with my dad. What i want to know is this: Has it been scientifically proved? or not proved that it affects your intellectuality when you are sober? My friends have all started drinking and been going at it hard and i feel like im missing out of something but i dont want to fail in school

Hi, in your health class don't they teach about substance abuse and how to keep yourself healthy? Or do you live in one of those states which forgoes education in favor of abstinence programs?

If your getting really drunk every week for an extended amount of time, you will eventually start losing brain cells and clear thought. Alcoholics know this.

Don't drink alcohol, it's just a bad decision all around. I regret ever drinking to get plastered. But beer's good sometimes.

I don't think you should worry it seems as if something has already had an effect on your intellect.

Ah but brain cells are not replaced, you lose them permanently. Ha I remember some funny fact about how much you lose from heading a ball in football. It was quite scary :?

But brain cells actually are replaced. Most people believe they arent because it has been taught for years that they dont. But more recently scientists have discovered that brain cells are actually replaced, although it is at a much lower capacity than the other cells in your body.

Just think about it, if brain cells were never replaced, then you wouldn,t hear stories of people recovering from brain injuries

Alcohol can make you temporarily stupid if you drink too much, and quite honestly thats part of the fun. I dont mean being stupid is fun, but part of the feeling that goes along with it is nice. Its very relaxing, loosens you up...its great.

Just dont be an alcoholic and youre fine

I'll have to correct you there my friend, in those cases of recovery the remaining neurons create a different neuronal pathway that has the same effect. It is simply likea road being destroyed and in it's place a new one is built that is not the same but leads to the same place.

Alcohol, unlike other drinks, gets absorbed into your bloodstream. When your blood passes by your brain to deliver oxygen, the alcohol also goes to your brain and kills brain cells, which do not grow back. Yes, this is scientifically proven, and yes, alcoholism (frequent drinking) can lead to long-term damage to the brain, as well as most other internal organs.

Yes, everything needs to be in moderation unless it's really fun. So, take another bong hit and play another four hours of TF2.

You have to drink ALOT, over a Very long time, for it to cause damage to your brain, it is however not braincells you lose, but the chemical ballance in your brain that gets so far out of ballance, that the cells dont funktion like a normal human being.

In other words, drinking alot will make you insane, completely and utterly. Psychosis is a very common thing to see in people addicted to alcohol, which they did not have before taking up drinking.

It is the rest of your body I would be worried about if you take up drinking, alcohol is very much a poison, very weak granted, but heavy drinking for 10 years, willcut off a nice chunk of your lifespan (heavy drinkingis a whole lot tho, something like 79+ beerseach week, if you never go above 21 you should be fine, the body can process that much in average, if youre a male)

If you go out drinking a few times a month, wont really hurt you, but it would not be wise to start really, it is a very bad habit, alot like smoking, and it can get fairly addictive, partly due to the socialaspect.

only if you abuse it. Drinking a beer ever day and getting drunk once a week will not make you less intelligent.
