CNN

-Jones was sued for his conspiracy theories of the Sandy Hook shooting

-Lost the case, but tried to fight the rulings.

-A liquidation of Alex Jones personal assets is approved

-Jones himself fears for the end of Info Wars.

Well, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. /sarcasm

Good.

The man is a vile piece of garbage who intentionally and knowingly spread disgusting lies to profit himself, as if those parents didn’t have enough pain to deal with. Leave him in utter ruin I say.

Jones is at the core of the far-right grift machine that embodies all the worst aspects of the US and beyond.

It's only become worse since the announcement he had to liquidate things: he is now telling people to go buy supplements (for those that don't know, InfoWars is basically a talk show created to sell scam supplements like colloidal silver, herbal boosters, etc), and he has had guests on like Victor Bout who was/is a pro-Putin arms dealer that was famously the inspiration for Nic Cage's "Lord of War" character.

Alex Jones is pure evil. I really don't think I or anyone can exaggerate just how awful of a person he is.

The best part is that this is (iirc) Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, which means that this will follow him for the rest of his life. He will have a team of auditors assigned to him for the rest of his days to garnish his wages, assets, etc.. In most bankruptcy issues you dissolve your company or whatever and move on; not with Jones. He can't start anything new.

So basically, if this works as it should, Jones is out of the game. Why? Because if he believes the shit he preaches, any time he makes money doing a show or making an appearance or writing a book, most of that money will go towards the "globalist government" he claims to be fighting.

Anyway, for folks wanting to do some interesting deep dives on Jones I highly recommend the Knowledge Fight podcast. Jordan can be a little annoying at times but the two hosts are pretty great and Dan does some great breakdowns and deconstructions of Jones while Jordan sort of plays the bombastic fool lol.

He spent the last year hiding his wealth, I'm sure the liquidation of the Infowars assets will only get a small fraction of what he owes.

Right now he is telling his listeners to buy his supplements from his dad's website ROFL. You can't make this up. Literally made up a new brand, has it marketed under his father's business, and is telling people to buy it from him.

Dude probably has a year's worth of inventory sitting in China of various herbs and supplements and minerals and is like "Shit I have to offload this!" lol.

Con artist to the most extreme degree.

@mrbojangles25: if I recall, during the civil trial against him, the judgment against him came after he tried claiming he had less money than he actually did, and his lawyers goofed and made a copy of his phone for the plantiffss' attorneys in the civil case, and it had access to the information that his net worth was substantially more than he tried to claim in court. So, curious how much money they knew he had before he went and hid it.

Judge also warned him to consequences of trying to hide his money, seemed an empty threat, they knew he was hiding it a year ago or longer and no court seemed to try to stop him from doing it.

That's really what it all boils down to in the most simple form. Just basic--and I mean basic--decency.

Yup that's exactly what happened as far as I know.

That podcast I linked actually had the prosecution lawyer on as a guest, he was really enjoying the whole schadenfreude of that text going out and getting those records. They had audio of the court case and he was really letting Jones have it.

Yup! Especially after that one UK documentary covering what a creep he turned out to be. Which Brand, I s*** you not, more or less outed himself with a brief video saying "what's coming out is going to be filled with lies."

Yeah he had his 15 minutes of fame back in the 2010's or so, then sort of faded away.

I think he was always kind of a creep, now he is trying to work that right-wing grift to get that money from the suckers.

I get people dislike Alex jones and want to see him destroyed.

But this whole thing is wildly excessive. I totally get he was wrong to say things about sandy hook that were wrong. But he did apologize for it and admitted he was wrong to do that ever since..

for real.. 1.5 billion is a ridiculous number.. that number is not possible for anyone.. really hard for me to not see that as extremely excessive for saying false information. It's a number that's over half the total GDP of France.. 1.5 billion is not realistic.

They will never get that 1.5 billion , it doesn't exist and if this was anyone else besides Alex Jones. Many of you would agree. Might as well say he owes 500 trillion lol..

@sargentd: I guess in this situation one thing you can do is to talk to your congress member, tell them how you feel. They could make this an issue to campaign on, and try to get the laws/penalties to be changed or amended. What other things do you think people can do?

@girlusocrazy: I dunno, not my job to run the legal system. But this seems like an excessive amount of money. An unrealistic amount of money that will never actually be paid. Wouldn't be surprised if this is a coordinated effort to try and shut down his platform by people that have nothing to do with sandy hook families in the first place but are using them as an excuse to shut him down.

Seems bizarre to me to award this number 1.5 billion on a lawsuit for someone saying something that was incorrect. Something they admit was incorrect and already publicly apologized for... it feels a little tyrannical if I'm being honest.

Maybe sue somebody for 1.5 billion who was involved in helping the shooter or something.. but for a guy that just said something incorrect about the incident.. doesn't make sense to me

Didn't the victims of Sandy Hook get death threats because of him? As well as being harassed for years.

Unless it was Alex Jones himself making threats don't see how he's liable for that, especially after correcting his statement publicly. Even if he didn't correct himself he can't be blamed for the bad actions of someone else. Doesn't make sense to blame him and not the people actually making the threats.

@sargentd: "But he did apologize for it and admitted he was wrong to do that ever since."

He spread lies that harmed the already devastated parents of slain children in the pursuit of $$$ and didn't apologize for it until AFTER he was sued. The damage was already done.

This is a civil trial. If you harmed someone, they sue. saying 'sorry' doesn't undo the damage.

However, he's currently claiming the lawsuits are part of a conspiracy by the Democrats and the Deep State to bring his show down, and that the Sandy Hook parents are part of this conspiracy. Does that sound like someone that is sorry? he's a real piece of work.

you know what they say: play stupid games, win stupid prizes. His prize is bankruptcy.

Believable statement. Would throw establishment Republicans in that as well.

I'm trying to justify this 1.5 billion number in my head.

His theory fits that number more than an incorrect public statement on the tragedy. I believe Alex said the parents are being used as pawns. That's different than saying they are apart of it. More they are being used.

These are civil matters, not criminal. They're called 'libel' laws. if you push lies that end up harming someone, then you can be sued, even if you are not the one personally harming the victim.

This lawsuit was not from 1 family, it was from 20 families of slain children and the families of the 6 adults that were killed.

this is a civil trial, not criminal. Civil trials carry both punitive and compensatory damages.

Further, he's just another adult who doesn't take responsibility for his actions that harm people, and any punishment he receives for doing something bad MUST be a conspiracy.

the fact that you believe the conspiracy of a dude that got sued and lost $1.5bil for conspiracies says that you're tin foil hat is on WAY too tight.

And there were plenty of allegations that Jones willfully said things knowing that it would cause harm to the families. If he wanted to argue otherwise he should not have let the case go to default judgement (which effectively means he admitted to the allegations).

You absolutely can and should be held responsible for inciting the actions of others.

If the suit was was for a couple million.. or maybe even like 50 million... I'd agree with you.. but 1.5 billion is not a realistic number any judge should know that number will not be able to be reached so why award it? Unless the goal is to not to collect money for libel but to stop an individual from ever being able to work... but I don't think they can legally outlaw someone from working or speaking in public.. that would unconstitutional and a clear violation of the bill of rights.

So instead they slapped an insane number like 1.5 billion on him, knowing it's an impossible number for him to pay anyone.

The 1.5 billion number is absolutely outlandish. Nobody has done a good job explaining why this a reasonable number for such a case.. for being wrong about a tradjedy..

I dunno I think about when the loose change documentary came out after 9/11. Made many bold claims that 9/11 was an inside job. Nobody is suing them for 1.5 billion for being wrong on the tragedy.

There has to be some alternative motive for the 1.5 billion number because it's not realistic and those families are never going to be paid that.

@sargentd:"How can you lose 1.5 billion if you never had 1.5 billion?"

Since that's a general question, the answer is yes, you can lose money you don't have: Margin Trading on the stock market, or when anyone uses loaned money on a losing investment (you don't own borrowed money. it's considered debt).

in the matter of the Alex Jones trial, he lost a lawsuit in the amount of 1.5bil.

The plaintiffs offered to settle for $85mil. That must also be a conspiracy, right?

@ogvampire: Maybe Jones isn't paying attention. Apparently he also lost some of the court cases related to this simply because of failing to comply with court orders. His neglect cost him and could have been avoided.

yes, you can be sued for more money than you have or possibly make. Civil cases can pass these types of judgements. that's why there are settlements for these instances. The plaintiffs offered to settle for $85mil.

"Unless the goal is to not to collect money for libel but to stop an individual from ever being able to work... but I don't think they can legally outlaw someone from working or speaking in public.. that would unconstitutional and a clear violation of the bill of rights."

What are you talking about? Nobody is stopping Alex Jones from speaking in public or working. unless you're only argument is that he can only work at infowars and the only speaking he can do is spread lies that harm others. That would be a pretty stupid argument to make.

if you don't want to keep looking silly, stop talking about matters you obviously don't comprehend.

@girlusocrazy: not neglect. he had attorneys that handle the matter and would have been in constant contact with him about the court's deadlines. he simply had no defense for pushing these lies.

@ogvampire: wouldn't settle for 85 mill, just roll with the 1.5 billion. Don't have the money anyway, just file bankruptcy and keep doing interviews and podcasts if you have an audiance for it. **** em.

@girlusocrazy: i can't speculate on why he didn't provide anything in regards to documents in his defense. He had plenty of opportunities to do so but didn't. My guess is simply that there isn't anything reasonable to provide that will defend the conspiracy he was pushing.

@sargentd: "just file bankruptcy and keep doing interviews and podcasts if you have an audiance for it. **** em."

yes, screw those people that lost their children, and then had to endure years of harassment and threats afterwards due in no small part to Alex Jones' irresponsible actions.

you must be allergic to basic human decency.

@ogvampire: He's apologized for his comments over and over, he admits he was wrong to call it a false flag. But Alex Jones isn't the shooter . 1.5 billion is a joke. They will never get that money. Was more talking about the courts, **** em, they want to award 1.5 billion go find it *shrug* as far as the parents go, I can have empathy for grieving families, I'm sure they are all fucked up in the head after the shooter ruined thier lives.

CoD is already lame and toxic enough, you really want Jones on there?

Shit, why not bring Andrew Tate along while you're at it. He can talk about homoeroticism and muscle-bound men all day with Jones.

It's a chapter 7 (iirc) bankruptcy; the point isn't to get all the money, the point is to make sure he doesn't repeat his offenses by making sure this follows him around forever. Chapter 7 doesn't go away like Chapter 11 does; if Jones tries to start something else up under a different name, then any profit from that goes to the families.

Jones will have a small group of forensic accountants monitoring him for the rest of his days. Anything he does to generate revenue will go to the families and, by his logic, will go to the jews globalists and non-white non-christians deep-state progressives.

It's poetic, and exactly what he deserves. Not a joke at all.

Of course he is already back to a.) denying and b.) conning people out of their money. Now he is telling folks to go to his dad's website to buy his Chinese-sourced supplements, which is the entire point of his show to begin with. So, you know, if you need some herbs so you can have a harder boner or some colloidal silver or some iodine, by all means, go visit his dad's website.

The shooter ruined their lives.

But Alex Jones and his sycophants straight up took the ashes of that ruin and pissed and trampled all over them.

They took a tragedy and turned it into a travesty.

And make no mistake: Alex Jones IS RESPONSIBLE.

This whole "Jones didn't shoot anyone" nonsense has got to go. Don't die on that hill like Jones did. The man is indefensible, as evidenced by his multiple, failed lawsuits.

Bingo.

The monster has no defense. It is literally all lies. Literally literal, not the casual literal. Lies upon lies upon conspiracy theories based upon lies.

@mrbojangles25: Alex is far superior to Andrew. Not even close. Now that Doc is gone, we need a replacement for CoD, and he is perfect for the job.
