It's not suprising really, although don't look at this post as a bashing to Gamespot, I'm sure this happens at other sites too :)

Like it matters either way because you would still have to wait until launch day for a title to play it anyways.

Unsurprising, although I thought the note would have read:

If it has good graphics, give it a 9.5 or 10.

Not really...

Why would gamespot change a review just to get it in before the release date?

Just think about games the same way as movies...if it's launch day and the reviews still aren't out, it's probably because the game sucks. Don't buy it.

How is helping a company that without this supposed gameing company this site wouldn't even exist doing them a favor on when to let a review out a bad thing? It has nothing to do with being biased at all, its simply helping out a developer or a company such as Sony make some money on a game even if it does bad in a review. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'd also think that it's looking out for their own asses. If they post a bad review early despite the company's request, I'd imagine that could make the company decide not to give them advance copies of future games.

Good point, I mean unless there is some contract that they have written that these developers or companies such as MS or Sony have to give them a copy.

1) the fact that the developer of the game is asking for it does not effect GS creditability but rather the developers as I find it hard to believe that this sort of letter would not be sent to IGN, Gamepro etc

2) Did Gamespot actually comply with the request? if not its a mootpoint.

It doesn't really affect the review, does it? It's still going to get a bad score either way.

Saying that anything below a 9 is a bad review is sending the reviewer a mixed message, imo. A 5 should be an ok honest effort. a 6.5 should be good. a 7.6 should be great. Something like that. The developers (or their puppet masters) get their asses kissed way too much and it shows. I'm not a fan of small visceral stories and good graphics alone. I honestly believe no matter what you put out, 25% of gamers will be pleased with it, as long as it's finished. So they're going to make money, releasing games with no stories/replayability.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. It's not like the note said "Make sure this game gets a good review because they are paying us to advertise for them."

That's not a big deal, we know developers put all kinds of embargos on reviews, depending on the score. Case in point, how many Haze reviews did you see before the game was released?

That happens with every publication. It has nothing to do with the site itself, that's something game company PR people do so everyone gets the 'best news possible' first.
