I like Alice in Chains the most. Then again I have barely ever listened to Nirvana and especially Soundgarden.
EDIT: I'm talking about early to mid 90s grunge bands. If you don't see your favorite on this list, vote "other."

Alice in Chains, easily. Kurt Cobain was an incredibly mediocre musician but both Dave and Krist were great. Soundgarden never did anything worth listening to. And Chris Cornell is an ass.
Out of those my personal choice is Nirvana way out ahead with Alice in Chains a respectable second and Soundgarden way down in the basement.
Alice in Chains. I like Nirvana as well, but they were almost a pop band, at least for the genre. I only got in to a few songs from Soundgarden. Alice in Chains is in a class of their own, producing great song after great song.
I don't understand how you can make this list without including Pearl Jam.
The grunge scene ended way to quickly. The music industry blamed it on Kurt Cobain's suicide, but I think they got tired of the grunge bands rebelling against them and signed bands they could havemore control over, and popularised alternative music to the point it was no longer alternative.
Where the hell is Pearl Jam? :?

Well I forgot about them and it woundn't fit in the topic title anyway.
Just pick "other."

I did. :P
You put them in the correct order in your poll. I pick Alice in Chains. I kind of wonder what "other" is in the context of this poll though. Is that for people that can't decide?SpaceMoose
Pick "other" if I forgot a band, like Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam.

At some point, doesn't the question then just become, "What is your favorite band that became popular in the mid to late 90's that was generally labeled as 'alternative rock' at that time?" :P(It would probably still be AiC.)

Lol I guess so. I'm talking about grunge bands in particular.

Mid to late nineties? Try early nineties. The grunge scene was pretty much over by the late nineties.[QUOTE="ghoklebutter"]

I guess that's more accurate.[QUOTE="psychobrew"][QUOTE="SpaceMoose"] At some point, doesn't the question then just become, "What is your favorite band that became popular in the mid to late 90's that was generally labeled as 'alternative rock' at that time?" :PMid to late nineties? Grunge started in the mid 1980s. Nirvana hit the radio in 1991. They were formed in 1987 and ended with Cobains death in 1994. The Grunge scene started to die after Cobain's death in 1994, though the existing bands kept going for a few more years (but I can't think of any new Grunge bands who made it big time who were signed after Cobain's death). You're right though, the "official" death of Grunge was in the late nineties.
If you like Grunge, this is definitely worth reading.

I love all three. Nirvana and Soundgarden are about equal and are both in my top 5 bands. AiC is one of my top ten bands. Despite all being labelled grunge they are three very different bands. These days I listen to Soundgarden more than Nirvana, mainly because I've played Nirvana songs out so much, which is easy to do for Nirvana since they have such simple (but still great) music.
I don't like Pearl Jam, btw.

I agree with this.

Btw, your sig should say "I feel so alone, gonna end up a big ole pile a them bones," not "I feel so alone, gunnin' up a bigger pile of them bones."

That's a bit embarrasing considering I must have listened to that song over a hundred times by now.Edit: Upon listening to it the 'gonna end up' part is very easily mistakable, the 'big ole' I should have noticed by now though. I kinda like my version better though :P. I'm too lazy to fix it, but I may be due for a new quote anyways.

Both stone temple pilots and pearl jam are better than soundgarden.
Los9090
Pearl Jam yes, but Stone Temple Pilots? I don't know about that, they were a great band but not on the same level as Soundgarden.
I can't stand chris cornell.
I think soundgarden is underrated to be honest... They had a few hits that got airplay but some of their other songs that got not play are really good.
I'm gonna go with Alice in chains though, the smashing pumpkins were good too.
edit:
Ah yeah, I liked STPs Core, nothing much after that, purple was good. Never got into pearl jam at all... There were many good bands of that era, they may not have been the best musically, but just the personal stuff they got into i'm really into, and it's not always about drugs and the crap that's in all their hits. Temple of the dog, mudhoney, the melvins... All good stuff in my opinion. Being in San Diego I was always around sublime, I like them too even though I'm not much of a pot head, I just grew up with them (yes, I know they're ska, I'm thinking we're talking about all bands from the 90s? not just "grunge").
I've listened to all three of those bands extensively and without a doubt I can say that Alice in Chains is my favorite. A lot of people pin the brunt of blame on them for bands like Staind and Creed, but the fact of the matter is that AiC was a great band. Layne Staley was a good, if slightly overrated, vocalist, and Jerry Cantrell has an awesome, bluesy style of guitar playing that gives me goosebumps every time I hear a riff, solo, whatever. Don't even get me started on the vocal harmonies in some of their songs. It's like musical magic.
But Soundgarden wasn't half bad either. Now, Nirvana? Kurt can have a little more shotgun for breakfast for all I care. (j/k of course, RIP Cobain...still, Nirvana freaking sucks)
