AiC had much more emotion in their songs and just better overal. They were both great bands though and I think people here don't give Nirvana enough respect.

AIC was not grunge. Go to Seattle and talk to the snooty alt fans, and they'll "PFFFFFTTTT" you out of the room. I choose Mudhoney because I'm from Grays Harbor and I am tired of everyone around here worshipping Kurt Cobain because he can't sing and he came from here........
Nirvana is better for me. I like the Grunge music, Candlebox, Pearl Jam and some AIC. Alice In Chains has that one really weird song though that freaks me out. I forget the name.

Actually I looked it up and it is I Stay Away.Its that part with their voices and the video is sorda strange. Not sayin I don't like the song, just weird to me.
Alice in Chains isn't Grunge... and for that matter, neither is Nirvana. Grunge is best defined as what bands like Mudhoney, Malfunkshun and Green River do.
Alice in Chains is a lot heavier and leans far more towards Metal than it does Grunge. But as a band, Staley and AIC are far better than Kobain and Nirvana. Staley's depression and angst far outweighed that of Kobain. Staley was always wanting to look good in the eyes of his father and thought he could never meet up to his standards... Kobain just didn't like the mainstream music industry.
It's Cobain not Kobain thank you very much :P . I feel that while Layne was always hurting from drugs (which Kurt was too) Kurt was just overthinking every little detail. Besides both of them disliked their dads although Cobain expressed he didn't anymore on Serve the Servants.
Nirvana and Soundgarden tie for first. Nirvana I liked more at first, but the simplicity lacks staying power. Soundgarden has larger library too.
Alice in Chains is left in third. Still one of my top...20 bands I'd say. I think I'll listen to Grind right now actually.
Pearl Jam, well Pearl Jam sucks.
They are all very different though. Nirvana more punky and simple, Soundgarden usually cleaner and more complex, Alice in Chains were harder. It's too bad of the four the one I didn't like is the only one that didn't break up, though AiC is supposed to be getting back with a new singer.
