No, what happened is that there was criticism from the start about the police getting too buddy-buddy with vigilantes and the camera crew. Things like letting the cameras run ahead of the cops, making members of Perverted Justice temporary officers, toying with the pedos in a way that wasn't particularly safe for anyone involved (Hanson and the decoys especially), that sort of thing. Then during one taping a pedo managed to escape (because, again, the way they were toying with them was really stupid from a security viewpoint), drove to his house, and shot himself. This brought down hell upon that police department and MSNBC and suddenly people were taking those criticisms I mentioned earlier a lot more seriously. The end result was that MSNBC cancelled the show due to the controversy, and even if they hadn't police departments were shying away from the show at that point.
The popularity of the show had nothing to do with it. Police departments regularly do those sorts of traps all the time, hence why a lot of the pedos on the show mistook Hanson for a police detective. Furthermore, there was even a case where someone tipped off a pedo community that TCaP was filming in the area and even told them when, and they still had no trouble getting people to come over. Remember, a lot of the guys on that show weren't very smart (which is what you would expect from people thinking that they're seriously going to score with a 14 year old by chatting to her online and sending pictures of their dicks).
Anyway OP, the reason they bum rush the pedos is mainly because police love using excessive force since they know that 99 times out of 100 they'll get away with it.

This show makes me laugh like nothing else, but i still kind of feel bad for some of the guys. Chris always gives them false hope. Chris: Do you have anything you would like to say? Most of the ones I've seen (and I've seen most of the episodes) didn't run at all. The police say "POLICE!" and the guys stop and put their hands up but the cops still dogpile on them nonetheless.

They obviously realize that maltreating somebody whose character the show has already assassinated will win approval from the self-righteous simpletons who make up the majority of the show's audience.
There aren't even chat rooms anymore, so it'd be pretty difficult to make new episodes. My favorite was the guy who showed up naked, then got caught the next day AGAIN! He showed up at a mcdonalds the very next day after he was caught. What a tard.

More than likely.
It wouldn't help Hanson though. As police officers who do stings will tell you, their backup is there to avenge them, not save them.
