It really depends on what mainstream music you're talking about... mainstream pop and rap are intolerable though, imo.

I have never ever liked mainstream music as long as I have lived. Growing up when 90's pop was the thing, I was listening to disco. Then I progressed on to old school punk rock/hardcore/classic rock. Then to "real" hip hop. Then I picked up little genres here and there that I enjoyed...trip hop vocal jazz etc. But I have never enjoyed nor cared to enjoy Top 40 stuff.

I like the radio allot. Mostly Pandora. Probably because Im too lazy to choose music myself :P But I do agree with you, the stuff they play isn't all that bad, personally I like allot of today's mainstream music but i like the classics as well.

Radio is fine in small doses. I just get sick of hearing the same crap over and over again. Ever time I turn the radio on its Sweet Home Alabama. Its not that sweet.

YOu have a point, I guess I see it differently because I grow up in the generation where popular music is not good music. But in the 60's-70's popular bands were great bands.

In my day we used to wear monoglasses and suits aswell as ride unicycles. Nowadays all you see is them damn teens with their tight jeans and trendy T-Shirts.

:P Sorry, I'm just being silly. Yeah, there's good popular music from the 70s and 80s, but honestly was it allways good? There's alot of medicore music from all decades, and alot of the time that's what we choose to focus on. Though honestly I don't listen to radio that much, so I don't know how bad it really is.

Eh, I don't like the radio. I like choosing the songs I listen to. But if you're talking about mainstream music, then there is some mainstream rock I like, but very little. Everything else mainstream is just terrible.

People tend to exaggerate on the internets. However, there is no good to be found in songs like "Birthday Sex". None whatsoever. Mainstream music serves its purpose. It's easy to listen to, easy to remember, and simple to forget for long enough that labels can push out greatest hits albums to rake in on nostalgia. If all you want out of music is an easy-going casual listening experience, with similar material, mainstream music is the way to go, and there's no more shame in liking mainstream music than there is sticking to a select era/genre of music for reasons such as nostalgia or whatnot.

Well, I don't exactly like being told what to like by the creeps on the radio; but is the internet so different? I say listen to some radio once in a while to just to hear what's new, but turn off quick 'cause it's rumored to take over your mind. lol

The internet has allmusic.com, where you can check up musicians you lke and find out who influenced them, who was influenced by them, and who has a similar sound. Lets people search for new music pretty easily, where people can come to their own conclusions. That's just one place online, so yeah, I'd say the internet is different than radio in that regard.

i listen to anything if i like it. Even Taylor Swift :D. seriously though. people on OT always talk about like all the Death Metal stuff that they listen to. I HATE Death Metal. But to each his own right? i dont go bashing death metal just because i dont like it. but everyone on OT seems to like bashing mainstream bands like Fall Out Boy and Green Day. Those are my two fave bands :D

Mainstream music was at least memorable and decent before the 00s. Most mainstream music now is just bad.

I don't really like the radio, mainly because they repeat songs too often.

And because the quality of music most radio stations play is quite low, imo.

There's probably 1 or 2 radio stations around here that I like but I don't listen to the radio that much anymore. I'm always looking for music but some of the "popular" stuff is plain garbage to me. I listen pretty much to rock and other genres associated with it but i'm not really good at classifying music lol. I guess I'm a casual music listener?

I don't hate mainstream music, but I find it really shallow so I usually don't like to listen to it.
