The way cashiers give you your change back? i.e receipt on bottom then paper money then coins. they hand it to me and i have 2 options: lay it all down on the counter to separate it or ball it all up and stuff it in my pocket.

just hand me the coins separately so i can quickly drop them in my pocket!

People have been talking about this for ages.

They do it like that because people don't complain when they do it like that.

I like to get the coins back first. When I worked as a cashier I always did it that way because of my own personal preference. I'm not sure if the customers appreciated it or not though.

I'm with you 100%. There's always people behind me in line so I just crumple it and throw it in my pocket.

I think they are probably more focused on getting through the day and all the rude people they have to deal with than how you want your change back ...though if I had known it bothered people I would have done it more

I have never ONCE had this happen to me. so the first time it does, i'm giving the cashier my change, no matter the amount.

I was a cashier for four years, and as someone else said, nobody ever complains or says anything about it, so cashiers don't change the way they give out change. That's always been a pet peeve for me however, so I always hand change, dollars, and receipts back separately. What's more annoying is customers who want to sit there for 20 minutes, arguing the price over every little item that the computer system (which is far more fallible than said customer /sarcasm) rings up.

I guess it's for the coin to weight down the receipt in your hand. If they put the coin first, then the receipt, the receipt will curl up.

How is a customer supposed to complain about that without sounding like a jerk? :P

Thats how I always gave change back :? maybe that explains the occasional angry look I got that seemed out of nowhere. To me its not that big of a deal because I take the money tip the change in the other hand then stuff the change in my pocket and place the receipt and money into my wallet.

Well 90% of our customers complain to us about pointless **** on a daily basis, so it surprises me that so many people don't say anything. Yet if a box of cereal is off by 10 cents we have angry customers demanding a refund . The mob mentality in a grocery store is really something to observe.

Indeed  I've noticed that people completely change in a grocery store.

well iv'e thought about this (more than i should) and yes its faster for the cashier to give you your change this way....but then the customer stands there separating it and holding up the line, while they could be on to the next person.

usually I'm just getting coins back, because our smallest bill is $5, but I do like it when they give me the coins separately. I always spill them if they're on my receipt.

im with u on this issue, i get very pissed off as well, like they hand us a ball of mixed paper and coins and even the reciept, i literally need like 2-3 minutes to take care of the situation.

whenever i hand customers their change back, i give them the change with one of my hands, and the receipt/cash with the other. it's up to them to decide which hand(s) they want to take it with.
