In my city job centers are being shut down. Next year middle school athletics won't exist. They are shutting down 10 schools, all in poor areas so they can bus the ghetto children to other schools till there overpopulated an crap. BTW at bus stops I see lots of small children paying to take the city bus to school by themselves in dangerous areas cause the school bus budget was cut. The library is now open 2 days a week, and they wonder why people with computers can't find jobs? The bus fare is now $2, and 3 months ago it was $1.50

I see homeless people every day with no legs sitting passed out in there own urine. At night those same people are still passed out in there own urine under the interstate bridge cause theres no room at the shelter. I see children stealing from stores to feed themselves. Almost everyone I went to high school with is selling drugs or there body to pay rent and feed there kids cause theyve filled out 50 applications an got no interviews, and the ones with jobs are getting 10-20 hours a week.

Than I turn on the TV and hear the republicans wan't to cut healthcare and education more so they can keep making sure the rich stay rich.

I was watching Fox and they said they have a plan to cut health care and education to help reduce the deficit and save the US economy.

I like to punch the water, my hand can actually go through it so it makes me feel even better. You should try it some time if the water in your area is provided by a government owned agency.

Yeah, but life would be alot better if they wern't shutting down all the schools, and libraries, and taking away peoples oppurtunites to find jobs, and raising the price of everything while people are unemployed and can't find work. I really am starting to believe that the government does not care about you unless you make 200K+ a year. If you are not in that group you don't exist to them unless you live in the projects, or are on welfare and than you only exist for them to talk bad about you, even though all senators and congressman basically live millionaire lifestyles on the taxpayers money.

There isn't unlimited funding for everything in every city. Some schools get shut down. Other's get build. It goes both ways.

Okay then. That's right, it's the idiotic governor of AZ (where I'm from) that is cutting spending in education. Not exaclty leading to a bright future.

I'm angry at both, but hearing the republicans on the TV saying we need to cut funding for schools, library's, and healthcare when I see people suffering to survive and move up and become productive members of society due to a lack of funding already REALLY pissed me off. I know people with serious medical conditions selling the drugs prescribed by them that keep them alive so they have enough money to catch a bus twice a week and wait in line 5 hours to get online an fill out applications for jobs for an hour, an still have enough money left over to feed there children bologna sandwiches, an buy more drugs so they won't go into a seizure.

Well, the government is representative of it's people, the incompetence comes from somewhere.

I love how people scream "reform" or whatever and nothing ever changes.

www.usdebtclock.org that right there is why despite the madness you may see is why we need to cut spending on all fronts. and unfortunently because weve been spending ourselves into a hole for ages now our reckless stupidity in order to get out of is going to require alot more suffering than it would of had we been dealing with the debt responsibly instead of recklessly spending till we are now basically screwed. sorry but if our debt doesnt come down homeless folks lieing in their own urine will be the least of your problems.

It already is. I'm a target for robbery where I live because I have a job and a car. I agree that we need to cut spending, but if we really need to quit spending than why can't we start by stopping giving unprecedented tax cuts to the richest Americans who already get breaks thru loopholes instead of first taking away more from people who are struggling to feed themselves and survive. Real people, with real dreams, and real hopes for the future, not just numbers on a paper.

because they already pay close to 50% of their income in taxes. and these are the same folks that hire people for work if you keep robbing them theyll hire less people. because ive never worked for a poor man. rich people own businesses and create jobs because they have money. and there is also a whole ton of folks collecting welfare that dont even pay taxes. or dont even work. they contribute nothing to society from that point of view. it is largely a waste of money if we cut that and let them go beg for jobs cut taxes on the rich so they can spend more on creating jobs also WIC basically just gives you free stuff for having a kid its ridiculous. if they lowered the price of getting a patent from the current 10 000 dollars to a more reasonable 500 or 1000 which it was it was 10 or 20 years ago if i recall. we would see some economy growing. also countless businesses arent sure where we are going because healthcare is about to rob them blind so they dont want to hire people. the bottom line is shrink the overgrown government. i mean its broke when your broke you stop spending. its basic common sense. and the rich dont have unprecendented tax cuts america has some of the highest corporate tax rates floating around. and some places like new york are just insanely bad. and california as well which are two of our biggest states but are also in the most trouble in part because of their rob the rich mentalitiy. at this point we are in such a hole that anything short of a blanket 50% stop in government spending is a waste of effort. even then i say that needs to be more like 80% at least. are people going to cry ya? is it going to suck? probably....but thats what happens when you debt is off the charts and you have like 50 maxed out credit cards.

Republicans have not allowed Congress to get anything done, even as Democrats have the majority votes they do not possess the filibuster proof majority to hold votes, all it takes is 40 Republicans out of 100 Senators to stop a vote from taking place, and for the last two years their only ambition has been to obstruct progress for the purpose of blaming the lack of progress on the Democrats, they're filibustering everything at the expense of the American people. I'm pissed at Democratic leadership in Congress for not making those Republicans actually filibuster, you know, staying up all night no breaks until everyone is exhausted, all while it's recorded for national TV for all to see, instead they break at just the threat of a filibuster. And Barrack Obama has been a big tool playing the middle ground like the GOP actually has any ambition for getting progress made. However, I don't blame "government" as much as those in government, government actually works really good when people don't elect those that celebrate ignorance into power.

Where did you get that 50% figure from in the first sentence?

Well the current highest marginal tax rate is 35%. Add in sales tax of 7% and that is 42%. Add in Social Security and Medicaire and that is an additional 7.65% bringing the total to 49.65%. Of course with that said, one would need to make A LOT of money to have their real federal income tax rate to approach 35%.

Edit: I forgot to add in State income tax which varies from state to state(although it is deductible from your federal income taxes if I'm not mistaken) and property taxes and other minor misc. taxes.

[QUOTE="mattbbpl"][QUOTE="kayoticdreamz"] because they already pay close to 50% of their income in taxes. and these are the same folks that hire people for work if you keep robbing them theyll hire less people. because ive never worked for a poor man. rich people own businesses and create jobs because they have money. and there is also a whole ton of folks collecting welfare that dont even pay taxes. or dont even work. they contribute nothing to society from that point of view. it is largely a waste of money if we cut that and let them go beg for jobs cut taxes on the rich so they can spend more on creating jobs also WIC basically just gives you free stuff for having a kid its ridiculous. if they lowered the price of getting a patent from the current 10 000 dollars to a more reasonable 500 or 1000 which it was it was 10 or 20 years ago if i recall. we would see some economy growing. also countless businesses arent sure where we are going because healthcare is about to rob them blind so they dont want to hire people. the bottom line is shrink the overgrown government. i mean its broke when your broke you stop spending. its basic common sense. and the rich dont have unprecendented tax cuts america has some of the highest corporate tax rates floating around. and some places like new york are just insanely bad. and california as well which are two of our biggest states but are also in the most trouble in part because of their rob the rich mentalitiy. at this point we are in such a hole that anything short of a blanket 50% stop in government spending is a waste of effort. even then i say that needs to be more like 80% at least. are people going to cry ya? is it going to suck? probably....but thats what happens when you debt is off the charts and you have like 50 maxed out credit cards.metswonin69
Where did you get that 50% figure from in the first sentence?

Oh, so you're complaining that they pay roughly the same in taxes that the middle class does? And, BTW, many pay much lower, in fact.

The SS tax is regressive - only income below 106,000 dollars is subject to it so their SS tax rate is much lower than that of the middle class

Capital gains tax is also much lower which is where a significant amount of the income the wealthy receive is from.

Let's not make the rich out to be victims the government is robbing. Most of them pay lower tax rates than those paid by the middle class. If that's the way you like it, then fine, state that. But let's call a horse a horse.

Life unfortunately isn't perfect and the government doesn't have the ability to make it so.

The largest government expenses are for entitlement programs such as social security, medicare, welfare, etc. I'd say the government does help lots of people who don't make 200k a year . . . .

I apologize, I forgot that Social Security does top about at 106,000. However it can be argued that the extremely wealthy don't get as much benefit from Social Security as the lower and middle classes. In fact, I would actually consider sales tax to be more of a regressive tax considering that the marginal propensity to consume tends to have a negative relationship with income. I don't really see where you get the idea that the wealthy pay less in taxes than the non-wealthy do though.

I believe income tax is progressive. So those who make more pay more overall and a higher percentage. You are correct that capital gains tax is low, but how many people honestly consistently make a living off the stock market? Warren Buffet is the only person I know that consistently beats the market. Pretty much everyone else is just gambling.

I wouldn't necessarily call the stock market gambling. The stock market averages somewhere around an 8% return every year if I'm not mistaken.
