...we were watching the movie/documentary; Bowling for Columbine in Media today, and it made me realise just how ****ing crazy Americans really are. I mean it shows Michael Moore getting a bolt action rifle for free, just by opening a bank account.

You guys wonder why everyone else has low gun killing, but the answer is right their in front of you. STOP SELLING BULLETS A WALMART FFS. Its ridiculas how easy it is to get how of firearms in the United States, and I won't be living their any time soon.

Yes but you need to stop the circulation. Just because people already have guns, doesn't mean you cant stop the source.

Now, I'm English, and I agree that there should be gun control in the US... but at the same time I am aware that there is gun control in the US to a degree, and that it is relatively safe. I mean if someone wants a gun in the UK they can get one. Whether they are legal or not, people who want them for illegal purposes will always be able to acquire one.

Also as much as I like "Bowling for Columbine" as a film, not everything Michael Moore says is fact, he is a major offender for spinning things his own way...

all that would do is hurt legal gun owners. most criminals don't get guns legally anyway, so if guns were banned they could still easily get one. then how would law abiding citizens be able to defend themselves?

Make tuogher gun laws doesnt mean that criminals (those who actually use guns to harm others) will not be able to get them, especially when a majority of criminals get them illegally. Its not like gangs go to gun shops and buy guns.

The vast majority of gang shootings are with weapons purchased illegally, so making it tougher to buy one legally isn't going to help.

Yeah, that's what the government keeps saying about drugs. Stop the circulation, get to the source. That does not mean you can't easily get a bunch of illegal drugs. As mentioned before, those criminals will get guns anyway, it's not like they follow the law.

Haha! gamedude202, you just got brainwashed by Michael Moore. His job as an ultra-liberal is to show you all of the negative aspects of gun control in the US. Bowling for Columbine is a completely biased film from the point of view of a crazy person and you bought into it.

I'd wager they'd be a bit smart about it......people do die from beatings every year. Not to mention various items that can be used to kill. Do you want to outlaw knives next? Baseball bats....etc,

Yeah, but is it easy to stop a man with a knife? because if it's not a gun it will be a knife, and if its not a knife it will be a pipe or something... If someone wants to kill someone and they get into a position where they can, they will...

knives are for cutting food. baseball bats are for baseball.

Guns are for 'self defence' i.e. putting holes in people.

i would agree that in some areas gun laws are too lenient and background checks aren't in depth enough and for those areas they should definitely be stricter. of course though if someone wants to purchase a gun, whether it be legal or illegal, they will and that is why most homicides are committed using illegal firearms.

overall, as a country with the greatest amount of guns than any other nation (by far) i don't think we do too bad.

How do you differentiate between a kitchen knife and a self-defense kitchen knife? Are you going to ask people what purpose their knife serves and do you expect to get an honest answer?

What's your point? A kitched knife, or any fixed blade, can be easily concealed under a jacket or sweatshirt, and that's besides the point. Stabbing someone doesn't require a concealed weapon. If you sneak into someones house to murder them, you don't need a gun to do it.

well unless you got some leather and made yourself a sheath you'd do well to carry a concealed carving knife without stabbing yourself.

not many people are gonna go to the trouble of getting a knifeblock fitted in their back poket.

So you need a knife block to carry knives?

well unless you got some leather and made yourself a sheath you'd do well to carry a concealed carving knife without stabbing yourself.

Carving knife? What about steak knives, paring knives, or small chefs knives?

haha, I'd much rather somebody chase me down with a paring knife that with a gun.

That's the thing. Most shooting aren't random people being chased by random mad men with guns during broad daylight. And if someone wanted to stab you, they wouldn't announce it. They would come up behind you and stab you, there would be no running involved.

In the real world, you don't get to choose, nor do you have the option of forcing people to fight with only a certain type of weapon.

[QUOTE="Mr_sprinkles"][QUOTE="DeeJayInphinity"][QUOTE="Mr_sprinkles"] Haha, who says a 'self-defence' knife should be legal either?

How do you differentiate between a kitchen knife and a self-defense kitchen knife? Are you going to ask people what purpose their knife serves and do you expect to get an honest answer?

What's your point? A kitched knife, or any fixed blade, can be easily concealed under a jacket or sweatshirt, and that's besides the point. Stabbing someone doesn't require a concealed weapon. If you sneak into someones house to murder them, you don't need a gun to do it.

I'm not talking about cold calculated killers, I'm talking about people who flip out on the spur of the moment and decide killing you is a great way of letting off some of that anger. I'd much rather they have a kitchen knife under their coat that a pistol.

Isn't that kindof the point of this argument? Limiting what kind of weaponry the average joe is able to access.

And tell me, how often does this happen exactly? How often does a law abiding citizen, with a legally owned gun, just decide to flip out and kill people?

yeah you're right. If people didn't have guns, they wouldn't be able to figure out how to kill anyone
