MOSCOW, November 24 (RIA Novosti) - A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily Izvestia published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all."

On the fate of the U.S. dollar, he said: "In 2006 a secret agreement was reached between Canada, Mexico and the U.S. on a common Amero currency as a new monetary unit. This could signal preparations to replace the dollar. The one-hundred dollar bills that have flooded the world could be simply frozen. Under the pretext, let's say, that terrorists are forging them and they need to be checked."

When asked how Russia should react to his vision of the future, Panarin said: "Develop the ruble as a regional currency. Create a fully functioning oil exchange, trading in rubles... We must break the strings tying us to the financial Titanic, which in my view will soon sink."

Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

yeaaaaaa

what do you think about this?

I kind of thought this would happen too. Theres just too many people trying to run everyone elses lives, financial/economic issues stemming from the government.

I sure hope theres a libertarian country born from this, if its true. ill surely move there :)

Russia is saying that the US is collapsing? Russia is way closer to collapsing (again) that the US will ever be. Sure the US is an recession, but we were in a recession in 2000-2001, 1990-1991,1980-1983, 1973-1975, 1957-1958... This is a natural cycle, and for some reason this one will mean the end of America?

Not going to happen. And the great Russian Federation needs a few more years under it's belt as a "democracy" before any of their political commentators figure us out.

Democracy has nothing to do with this. It has to do with the economic system collapsing. Right now, Russia is on a much better track economically, so before we rip on them, perhaps we should consider the fact that they are heading the right direction while we are going the wrong way.

In a few years, Vladimir Putin will be a dictator (they just changing the constitution so he can run again; they are getting less and less democratic.), they won't get a few years of democracy under their belt.

its actually not uncommon for democracy to lead to a dictatorship. Democracy in many ways is just another type of dictatorship. Tyranny of the majority, afterall.

How are they on the right track?, they are dependent on oil for most of their money (Single Commodity Countries are unstable), they are sending all of thier money to china, just like we are, and their had the worst crash of anywhere in the world

Is this a joke? Russia becoming the world's financial leader? Russia reclaiming Alaska? Is this guy for real?

I mean, at the very least we know that there's no way in hell Russia will take Alaska since we have Liberty Prime waiting to deploy for that very scenario.

They aren't inflating, and they are giving tax breaks, and loosening up on regulations. The GOVERNMENT is making the right economic decisions. Getting imports from China and demanding oil isn't the government's fault, it's what the consumers have decided is valuable to them.

They are not on the right track, they are dependent on oil money, and thus when the price droped from 150+ dollars a barrel where they are selling it in Europe, to 40 dollars a barrel, there economy crashed. They may be doing good by deregulation (something that people in american can't seem to understand) but there economy is still terrible. BTW this is the same guy that said the Russian Economy was stable and wouldn't be effected by the world economy days before it crashed.

Russia and China will lead? Is he serious? Develop the ruble as a regional currency!? Im beginning to think this guy is being sarcastic. Honestly though, develop the ruble as a regional currency? Regional as in where? The former soviet union . If anything, the EURO would be the best currency to do so. Trade oil and such in euros, not a worthless unstable currency like the ruble. You cant make a country in which democracy on the verge of being completely destroyed, a leading economic country. China depends on the US and EU too much for its economy so thats a no.

Then drop the word democracy, point was they're only a few years old in the form they are now. Russia better off than us. I know your thinking about our government so I'm not arguing with you on that, but there's no way Russia is doing better now than we are. We started the snowball, and we'll be the one's to end or fix it when we realize we need to get back to making things in this country and not just pushing money around. So yeah, I'll take any 2 AP writers over that guy's opinion any day.

I can see the US fading from the spotlight but I don't see it breaking up. Maybe we'll go back to a looser republic but I don't think there is a big enough difference in regions to cause something like that. Even then, the coasts hold most of the elite and the educated so in the end we'd have East America and West America.

America bounced back from the Great Depression, and our current situation is about 0.1% as bad as that was, so we could get 100 times worse and still be OK. To be honest, I think the only ones being screwed over are the people that don't really work hard/earn their money, like stock brokers and people that gamble on things with other people's money, in addition to people that spend money they simply dont have.

You know, I would think being a Russian Analyst would give someone insight into recessions and economic collapse (cuz, you know, they live through it and endure it) but this guy is coming off like a complete idiot.

America becomes six parts based on demographics ("ooooh youre close to Canada so youre gonna become Americanadian...and you, you're all on the Pacific Ocean so youre gonna be the Northwest Union") is simply absurd.

So the cost of a loaf of bread has gone up by 20 cents. Big woop, minimum wage has also gone up.

And wtf is up with the "pyramid collapsing" reference...arent pyramids, next to arches, like the most stable and structurally-sound things in the world?
