It's a movie that requires multiple viewings to fully understand. I love it, though.

the scene with the axe and Jared Leto, where he is explaining Huey Lewis and the News (or whatever group it was), is easily one of my all-time favorite scenes in any movie

really funny movie. my favorite scene is probably when bateman's secretary goes through his personal agenda and sees each day of the week filled with crude childlike drawings of outragious ways to murder people. it sort of reminds of the "all work and no play make jack a dull boy" scene in the shining only funnier.

The movie wasn't bad, but it doesn't hold a candle to the book. There was things in there that will NEVER be put on the screen, no matter what kind of rating the movie would have gotten.

I've wanted to read more Ellis' novels...They don't have them on audiobooks though, and 99% of my "reading" is through audiobooks. I should read American Psycho again...

I don't see how people can listen to those, the narrators almost always put me to sleep.

Some of the killings in the book are EXTREMELY graphic. I can't even describe what some of them are without getting in trouble myself. Aside from that, the movie for the most part follows what's in there.

I guess ti depend on who's reading them. I happen to own a few audio books read by the authors themselves; Tracy Morgan, Artie Lange and George Carlin.

Yeah, they vary wildly depending on the narrator...But I typically listen to them during my commute, which is about 30 minutes, so I shouldn't be falling asleep anyway since I'm driving...And it's also for a short enough period of time where it doesn't get too boring. There have been exceptions.

Graphic as in "how did this book managed to get published?" kind of way. The book is written from Bateman's point of view, so he describes in extreme detail some of the things he has done. It's a decent read, but it's not for everyone.

That wouldn't be much detail...Detail would be describing things...:? Also, "graphic" does not mean scary or spooky...

One of my favorite dark comedies next to Happiness, and Harold and Maude. I think it is better than the book. The book may be more brutal, but it didn't feel as polished overall narrative wise. I think the film has a more focused feel and overall I enjoyed it more.

The book is there abouts a hundred times better than the film. Which kind of renders the film, while a decent stab (pun intended) at adapting it for screen, a failure.

For some reason I didnt get into the book much. It was pretty good, and much more graphic thats for sure. I didnt like it as much though, but then again I read it years ago. I actually want to re read it now to give it a second chance:P

The book was way better than the movie, but I enjoyed the movie a lot. Christian Bale is awesome. I loved the whole play on whose business card was the best. But yes, I agree that the book isn't for everyone.

I thought it was pretty good, but I'm reading the book now and it's definitely clear that a lot was lost in the translation. Obviously the graphic violence and sex had to be toned down, but the satire was almost dropped completely as well. Still great though.

It was a good film. A bit strange, but very good. And best of all, it features Huey Lewis and The News.
