I hate when people assume that because I'm American, that I'm ignorant to whats going on in the rest of the world or that I think I'm better than anyone or live in the best country, to me the American haters are just as bad at the people who portray our bad stereotypes

Americans (not the ones on the internet as much) seem very ignorant and uncaring of the world around them.

In that case I think that many Americans have archaic theocratic views that hinder progressive change and create an over all perception of stupidity. People recite the "founding values" of the country verbatim and refuse to acknowledge the possibility that our ideology is behind the rest of the western world. We're overly nationalistic and refuse to acknowledge the merit of other nations who have succeeded in areas where we have miserably failed. Instead of funding scientific research and global warming protocols, we're pouring hundreds of billions into a pointless, unachievable conflict.

Yep that's America, except for in California... We're all just a bunch of dudes who surf and hit it up with the valley girls.

All the americans i've talked to seemed pretty normal, being american is just as normal as being from any other country, i dont think americans are ignorant or something, they are patriot, well most of them, and it may seem that they think they're better, but i dont see it that way

im from canada and know a lot of americans, all good people, i dont hate america, i hate what bush has done to it though, hes pretty much made it the most hated country in the whole world, i think that america is a great country with some incredible people, but there are also some americans who soil the image of america, these are the people who are against black people, and who believe that the war should never end, and who do truelly believe that they are superior to the world, its these people who in america i dislike strongly

Are you talking about the Americans you've sen on the news or tv or have you personally met some ignorant Americans?

Note: I am purposefully making sweeping generalisations,

I have seen them on TV, talked to them on the internet(on forums and 1 to 1) aswell, and its a stereotype I know alot of my friends share.

Maybe it was misguided of me to say it like it was my personal stereotype, which it isnt, but it is one alot of people have.

Dont bring politics into this. I'm conservative and proud to be a US citizen. I still look down to the people who believe because they are an American they are the best. Pride like that is nothing but a nasty inward gluttony.

Yes, it must be those bastard republicans. god only knows its not the democrats that do things like sanction to make turkey take account for an offense it did a century earlier. It can't be the valley girls that have everything in the world and still complain. It certainly can't be the touchy feely 'lets all get along' habits. People who believe womb to the tomb theries are ok are whats wrong with America, not republicans. If anything, we're salting this rotting piece of meat we call a country.

P.S. Most the world hates eachother as well as us. I think it's about time we stop giving a damn about what they thinks and worry about ourselves.

Well, I don't mean everytime I'm on but I'll use this as an example I was playing CoD 4 today and was in a party with some Canadian guys. They started talking about how are all obese and are hicks with bad dental hygene(sp?) and multiple other things. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it just ticks me off.

Yeah there are generally the same type of ignorant people in every country, we just have more than most countries because we have a pretty large population compared to many other countries.

The average republican is now nothing more than a ****ing rhino. Basically a liberal who doesn't want to admit he's liberal. I am one of those quasi republican jackasses your talking about and I still say the right isn't the problem. the liberals are running the show. control the media, control the government and you control the country, which is exactly what the liberals are doing, not the conservatives (If conservatives ran television then half of the **** that foreigners use to make generalizations about us would be gone).

Oh and California is a festering wasteland that should be burned off the map. I'd ratherbe a smelly dumbass hick whos brain has been deteriorated by booze than a smelly dumass hippie whos brains been deteriorated by weed.

I wouldn't call Fox News the enlightening cure for the "evil liberal media". Seeing as they are the ones who constantly twist the facts and get mocked for being laughably ridiculous, I would say that the right is vastly more responsible for the foreign perception of America.

Many people I know from the central European area tend to look at Americans as a stupid society. I get dogged on alot for how much money I spend, and that I buy frivolous things. Because I buy expensive toys that makes me a stupid person, I don't see the logic behind that. People buy what they want and to them it isn't a waste of money. Sure it might eventually become that but I'd rather spend my money on something that I'm going to get some enjoyment out of then save my money for no reason. Just because I'm in a situation to buy stuff that I want doesn't mean I'm stupid for buying something that the next person wasn't able to afford. I hate how many people from generally poorer countries look at americans like this.

[QUOTE="sovereign_22"]americans are open to post too about what they think of us bman784

While I don't think America is the only country that does this by any means, I agree with you 100%.

By judging me as a crazy conservative ass, you guys have perpetuated the ideas that have been flowing from our foreign allies

nope, I'm not republican but I decided to see the response, which is pretty much what I expected. Everyone judges everyone in this world. I'm sure you guys have opinions about foreigners as they have opinions about us. we need to stop blaming people and just work to break the barriers. the next time someone assumes your fat or ignorant because your American, correct them.
