Hi! I want to know do Americans eat this in USA - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawarma In Russia it is a lot of traders on the streets who sell for us shaurma (in Moscow we call it shaurma) they always make it with dirty hands. May be 1 or 2 between 10 of them use plastic gloves. Why i think their hands are dirty? It is because they take money from you and don't wash their hands after it. I don't understand how people can it this from that like traders. It is awful. But also we have good places where you can buy nice shaurma with a lot of meat and fat. :) Typical shaurma eatery: 1) static.24.ua/images/0/45/45986/large_45986.jpg 2) aif.ru/application/public/news/319/ab3dcf8b9e818944eaf7a8292c52fb82_big.jpg "Make shaurma" flash game: flashgames.az/index.php?game_id=1170

We call them Kebabs in Australia. They are the traditional late-night meal for drunks wandering around the city. Summed up best in this.

We have Kabobs, sure.

*looks it up*

Oh wait! Those aren't Kabobs, and yes, I've had something like that at a Mediterranean restaurant once.

You can find those in specialty shops in big cities. Particularly in parts of a city that's inhabited mostly be middle eastern immigrants. They're not everywhere though. Off the top of my head, the only place I can think of where I've seen them is New York City.

I've eaten them with rice in Turkey (I spent 4 years there). I've also eaten something similar during a visit to NYC on one of the mobile roach coaches. $5 a full styrofoam container....it's pretty good.

No, we put ice in our drinks and if a place doesn't have a machine to dispense it a cashier might do it by hand without washing.

Oh Kebab's, how I miss them. They're really hard to find here and I don't know why. I mean, they've got everything a typical American would want, they're big, salty, unhealthy, and cheap.

Try a restaurant called Villa Madina. I know there's one in Scarborough Town Centre - but I think they have many stores across canada.

shawarmas are possibly the most amazing food ever created. when i lived in the middle east they were a regular part of my died.

you can find them in the states. mostly in the middle eastern parts of town. but they are no where near the quality of amazing that is offered in other countries. and ive yet to find a proper turkish style shawarma in the states. mostly a more lebanese influence. but all still great food

Netherlands: In the Netherlands, shawarma (shoarma) is a popular meal. Here it is served as spiced lamb, chicken, beef or rarely, pork combined with salad and garlic sauce. It is generally served inside a small circular pitã bread, which is cut open upon which the meat is placed inside. It is usually served with French fries or potato wedges and can be bought from many places, including snackbars. Shoarma in the Netherlands is generally first spit roasted and after carving off s then grilled or fried, or a combination of both.wikipedia

I prefer Döner Kebab tho. :)

Hang on, from the Wiki entry, isn't that the same thing as Doners? When I was in Europe, there were so many doner shops I had one in each city I visited. I have a couple of Doner shops in my general neighbourhood though I've only eaten at one.
