It really annoys me but it happens frequently, they are not the same creature!
The worst is when I hear people referring to Aesop's fable as "The Turtle and the Hare", dammnnn, that's bad.
So yeah, stop it.

[QUOTE="blackngold29"]Whoever came up with that is a genius That looks really goodThat's all I can say.0Tyler0
I can't imagine that there has been many situations where you've been present to see Americans confusing turtles and tortoises. Unless you work at a zoo or own a pet store, I can't see it coming up too often in everyday situations. Maybe things are different where you live, but that sort of thing doesn't come up to often around here.It really annoys me but it happens frequently, they are not the same creature!

In Heroes season 3 Matt has a pet tortoise and everyone refers to it as a turtle, he got it in the middle of the Desert for goodness sakes!
Ah another generalize America thread.:roll:LJS9502_basicI think you'll find I made an effort not to generalise, the thread doesn't say "Americans always confuse turtles and tortoises", it says "often" which is true. So why don't you read the thread title before you type another eye-rolling reply?
Oh good, it's been a while since there was a "stereotype america" thread.
Also, that pancake and sausage thing looks kinda good... Maybe I'm just that hungry right now....
Yep, totally true, I agree.
Incidentally,Latinos love beans, are or have beenillegal immigrants and wear sombreros.
So why don't you read the thread title before you type another eye-rolling reply?MemberinoYou're posting this in an American Forum, where most of the users here are from the United States, attacking a majority of Americans intelligence. I wouldn't exactly expect a warm welcome for this.
Merriam Webster Definition of turtle:
any of an order (Testudines syn. Chelonia) of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine reptiles that have a toothless horny beak and a shell of bony dermal plates usually covered with horny shields enclosing the trunk and into which the head, limbs, and tail usually may be withdrawn
TC FAIL
Sigh, people are ignant. Apparently any thread that attempts to see a general trend in a population is automatically wrong.MemberinoThe irony of you spelling ignorant wrong.
There isn't a huge difference between a turtle and a tortoise. One lives in water, the other on land.
They look very similar, so it's conceivable that people who don't take the time to learn the differences between them could mix them up. If you saw a jackrabbit would you just call it a rabbit? If you do, then you're making the same mistake that you are assuming most americans make.
You don't have any statistics to back the validity of your question up, which makes your attempts to defend it even more ridiculous. Honestly, next time you try to make a thread like this, do your homework.

Most people, of any nationality, probably cannot tell the difference between turtles and tortoises, hares and rabbits, crocodiles and alligators, and any other similar looking animals.
Ah another generalize America thread.:roll:LJS9502_basicYep, basically. TC is willing to point out this "problem", but isnt willing to solve it by listing the differences of these two similar species. So that means that Europeans are lazy, right? Or is it that Canadians are pompous? Seriously though, generalizing something so ridiculous is...well, its ridiculous.
