Hey Yall

I have noticed how big of a deal American republicans are making of Obamas very-slightly-leftist politics,Especially with the new Healthcare system and all.

Here, in my country of Norway (Which is NOT anywhere CLOSE to communist), the Democratic Party would definitely be counted as a right-wing party. Here, there are quite popular parties with names like "Red Party" and "Socialist-Leftist Party".

I´m not saying that is necessarily better, I´m just saying Americans don´t have to fear their country turning into a communist state. Many European countries, which are democracies and give their inhabitants capitalistic possibilities, are significantly further to the left than the Democratic Party is.

All in all: There is a massivedifference between "Healthcare system" and "Soviet-Union", politicians playing off fear of socialism should not be given much concern.

Thank you for your time.

Anyone who knows anything about what's going on already knows that we are far from a communist society.

Unfortunately, that's not very many people in the US. :(

But you're a socialist you just have never tasted sweet sweet freedom! :P I'm Canadian and really most of us think the whole Obama = Socialist thing is pretty hilarious since here he would probably be in the conservative party (and probably one of the more conservative members of it as well).

america is ruled by fear, simple is that.

Socialism is only scary for the rich people, and the rich manipulate the poor to fear it. While infact it would help them.

the talk about true liberty is kinda funny though, its like they dont even know what liberty is.

I don't believe there can be exaggerated fear of socialism. The only people who shouldn't be scared are those that profit from it, like the wealthy and the politicians. Now I'm not sure America is headed towards socialism/communism, but it sure as hell ain't going in the opposite direction.

The main thing I never liked about how the Tea Party acts is how they equate socialism and communism with being actually evil. They're just social ideas (absolute communism being an full impossibility). There's nothing about them that makes them evil or immoral. I also get annoyed when people don't realize things like utilities are actually part of a socialistic system. The electricity powering my computer and the water I shower with are thanks in part to socialism.

ALL -isms are prisons carefully crafted by some to rule others. Some of us for whatever reasons just can not handle the idea that other people ought to be *allowed* to run their own lives and "generously" offer to do the running for them, while some just like to meddle, more overtly give orders at whim, or establish huge bureaucracies to carry on their Grand Visions of somebody else's future.

Socialism is an -ism and I reject all such -isms.

I'm Canadian and while we do have some socialism it actually makes the country better. I honestly hate the idea of free market and privatizing absolutely everything. Health care should be provided by the government, not by the people who can kick you off it the moment you come down with some disease. People would rather pay strictly for themselves then by funnelling money into the system so everybody benefits.

I just laugh at people who find Obama, a fairly moderate leftist, to be "an extremist socialist". I assume if they saw what a real extremist leftist was their heads would explode scanners style.

Jesus is a huge commie. Giving away fish and bread? Come on, those people would have fish and bread if they just worked hard. Free healing touch? Healthcare isn't a right, its something you should earn. Amnesty for sinners? Heaven will be full of people that rushed St. Pete at the gate and then have heaven anchor babies.

Maybe its the fact that the US governments efficiency leaves alot to be desired. Being the richest nations makes it leaders more arrogant with its resources.

Personally, I have never understood why democrats arent the fiscal hawks of the 2 parties. Democrats have more to gain by making every dollar count, as it would leave more to use for other initiatives they may want to start. I'm not sure if its just lack of intelligence or will, but beyond the initial good ideas they propose Democrats seem to be terrible at limiting waste and maximising efficiency.

Its not about limiting waste or maximizing efficiency, its about getting reelected. Hopefully with this whole Tea Party thing, limiting waste and maximizing efficiency and getting reelected have sort of moved towards each other.

I think the problem with some people from the USA is that they grow up being told something is bad and that they should think its bad without actually being told what this thing actually is. When I left America I didn't know what communism was all I knew was that it thought was bad, bad, bad. Things are different now though. :P

Yeah, it's obnoxious how quickly people scream "socialism" at the slightest provocation. I wish we had a real socialist in power, so that our country could start to move in what I would consider the right direction. But, yeah...Obama's not a socialist. :(

Any step towards socialism means an increase in government power. Any increase in government power must result in a reduction in individual freedom.

I choose freedom and all the responsibility that comes with it, thank you.

Um no, that will lead to less freedom. Lots of government control over the way economics are conducted *may* lead to state socialism, but everyone knows that system is balls and it's not guaranteed. Then again, this is dependent on how one defines socialism.

The problem is there haven't really been any democratic Socialist states in the world, just about all of them are considered authourative socialism or communism. Also doesn't help that those states happen to be pretty big names in history and enemies of the United States.

So when people say "socialism" people think of the USSR, and then think of oppresive non-democractic government. The USSR allowed no freedoms not because it was socialist, it's because it was lead by dictators. Democracy and Socialism can easily go together, there just aren't any real examples of it currently so people don't know any better.

Then we have societies that have leftist policies (and by that I mean legitimate socialist policies, not liberal ones), that are perfectly free ad democractic just like the US. But these states, though left leaning are still not considered socialist states; they're all still liberal democracies. So you don't really hear much about these ones even though they are much further left than anything in the United States and are still free and happy societies.

Godwin's law never fails. Hitler was a FASCIST. Just because socialism is inthe party name doesn't make it so. They were bitter enemies of the German Communist Party. Most Republicans and Tea Party don't know enough about history and economic and political theory to be making these baseless claims.

Fascism and socialism aren't opposites, they can exist together, the Nazi party was fascist and socialist. But that doesn't even matter, just because Hitler was a socialist doesn't make socialism evil. Just like having a moustache doesn't make you evil.

:| That's like saying Libertarianism and Communism can exist together.

Fascism is Far Right on the traditional Left-Right Spectrum, Socialism is Left of Center on the traditional Left-Right spectrum. They CANNOT exist together. HitlerCALLED himself a socialist, but he was a Facist. A system that denies citizens (in this case, Jews)rights is not socialism, far from it.

There wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the Nazis and the Stalinists. Mass murderers? Check, only Hitler was about racial cleansing and Stalin was about class cleansing. State control over production? Check, with Hitler perhaps being slightly more tolerant. Hitler got rid of the communists so that he could have a one-party state, and to play on fears many sensible capitalists had of communism.

Hitler was a socialist... That's all I have to say.:|

Welkabonz

Godwin's law never fails. Hitler was a FASCIST. Just because socialism is inthe party name doesn't make it so. They were bitter enemies of the German Communist Party. Most Republicans and Tea Party don't know enough about history and economic and political theory to be making these baseless claims.

There wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the Nazis and the Stalinists. Mass murderers? Check, only Hitler was about racial cleansing and Stalin was about ****cleansing. State control over production? Check, with Hitler perhaps being slightly more tolerant. Hitler got rid of the communists so that he could have a one-party state, and to play on fears many sensible capitalists had of communism.

............... Stalin was a communist.. In which the government controls everything.. Socialism can include and in the eyes of Marx a democracy in which every one decides.. They are not the same.. That being said.. Socialism is dangerously flawed, as flawed as a capitalism.. Thats why the western nations are mixes of the two.
