So I was recently told that I'm taking a risk when I eat my eggs on a morning. I like soft boiled eggs.... cooked for maybe 2 minutes to 2 minutes 20 seconds depending on the size. It just tastes better when the yolk is completely runny. Sometimes a bit of the white is too, but still... Anyway, apparently I'm going to catch Salmonella and die tomorrow. What say you OT? First, do you eat eggs for breakfast. Second, do you like to dip toast in your egg? Third, have you ever been ill from eating your eggy treats. --- Also, I heard Americans refrigerate their eggs and British don't. I used to refrigerate but stopped for two reasons. National pride. And because I was sick of waiting for my eggs to warm up before boiling them.

Yes I eat eggs as part of breakfast, yes I like to dip toast/bread into the egg and I have never gotten ill from eating eggs :P. I prefer fried egg to boiled but either way the yolk has to be relatively runny, hate a solid yolk. Besides people eat raw eggs so slightly cooked eggs can't be worse for you surely?

That's what I thought as well. If people eat raw eggs, then what the heck.

So long as the eggs have the lion stamp on them you won't catch salmonella

You'll be fine. All eggs you get at the store are pasteurised...if you live in the US.

I've had soft-boiled eggs and eggs over easy my entire life, and haven't had an issue.

As in ketchup? My friend laughed at me for doing that. And I was like... what the heck, it's supposed to be cold and says refrigerate on the bottle.

Medium boiled is better! And you get salmonella from the egg shell so when you boil the egg, you kill all the germs.

Medium boiled makes it impossible to dip. You know it's going to be a bad day when you slightly overcook the yolk and can't dip.

His argument: The food is hot, why would you put something cold on it. But this is coming from a guy who literally covers every inch of the plate in ketchup. I'm surprised he can taste the food.

You are in greater danger of the chickens on the forum.

I doubt you'll get sick. Food like meats, eggs, and dairy are so processed and the animals given plenty of meds that your chances of catching anything from eating them undercooked is very low. If you want to be safe, buy the more expensive eggs and meats. These are usually higher quality and further decreases your chances of getting sick. You'll probably be safe.
