Don't see what was wrong with it.
She has a great voice too. The complainers should chill out.-_-

Wow, she made a mockery of our National Anthem. That was absolutely terrible. Not bad of a voice but she just butchered the song.
The funny thing is that the people complaining are probably also the same people who complain about political correctness in our country. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with her rendition of the song at all, and by the loud applause she received I don't think most people do either.Tauruslink
It's the words, not the tune. But to be honest, if she was white, there would be no complaints. She could at least be hot though. It's indiana for crying out loud.

Huh? No, "...people had complained that while the words to the anthem were the same, the tune was unrecognizable." Which is not even true, the tune is most definitely recognizable.
The only real problem I heard is the bloody echo of the place. Sure, it is a school gymnasium, but where is the sound absorbing material?
Insignificant stuff like this gets reported all the time in Indiana. Mostly because we don't have anything else to talk about.
Expressing their individuality. And I saw nothing wrong with they way she sang.I don't think it was that controvesial but I never understand why people feel the need to change the tune of the National Anthem or other related songs.

Si, the tune is recognizable, she said all the right words. This is blown way out of proportion. The main problem, is most people are blaming her because of her race, as she lives in a mainly white neighborhood, which is insane. It's a high school basketball game, who gives a poop if she butchers it, does a great job, or shows some 'individuality"? Total BSI find the fact that the article is making claims at racism from the complaints just as sad as the actual complaints. She did a beautiful job, and black or white they shouldn't make her change the way she sings.
This is absurd! I don't like this style of singing, but the basic structure of the song is there, I've heard others take worse liberties. Take the Backstreet Boys for example!

Considering that The Star-Spangled Banner is set to the tune of a popular British drinking song of the time, I don't think anybody should be complaining about the tune of this version not being traditional or classy enough.
What is really bad is when someone who thinks they know how to sing, but is most definitely musically challenged, tries singing the national anthem to the original tune ...... normally I am all for the power of "positive thinking" ... but that is where I have to put my hands over my ears and cry "Nooooooooooo!"

I don't see a problem with it.
I didn't see a big problem other than some notes being out of place. But that isn't disrespect, that may have just been her being nervous. On the other hand, R. Kelly's version was something that deserved complaints since he completely changed it up. Regardless of the situation, you're going to have people on both sides of the fence. The ones who consider changing it up from the traditional version disrespectful and the ones who don't care how you sing it.
the national anthem is lame anyway, it need to be changed to america the beautiful.

As opposed to all the significant stuff that's reported on local news in the other states.
Ha, I was going to say something to this effect. But yeah, this rendition didn't seem all that far out there at all. I've heard the song changed more when sung at major sporting events such as the World Series, and I don't recall any complaining. Please Log In to post.
