There's a lot of Japanese who are in denial about events during the Second World War, but when you have such a homogeneous society it's easy to cover your eyes and ears and sing.
So you haven't moved past WW2? I wasn't aware you were alive then....LJS9502_basic
:| This is a silly comment.. LJ would you say the same thing about the Holocaust?

If someone said they hated Germans because of it...yes.The Japanese were bastards during WWII and some Japanese today are ignorant jackasses about it. But since their defeat, they've by and large kept their hands to themselves and have contributed a good deal to the world.

If someone said they hated Germans because of it...yes.What if they were saying that the Holocaust was neccesary or denying it? Because that is exactly what the TC was pointing out, that a mayor of a major city was defending the practice..

If someone said they hated Germans because of it...yes. This is a government figure (a mayor) that says that the rape of women was necessary during the war to keep the soldiers morale high. What if the mayor of Berlin comes along and tells us the holocaust was necessary?[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]So you haven't moved past WW2? Europe did and we're no longer pointing fingers at Italy or Germany and going " Bad, you are bad"

The problem is Germany acknowledge them, and a mayor of a major German City wasn't saying they were necessary.
So you haven't moved past WW2? I wasn't aware you were alive then....LJS9502_basicTerrible stuff and all but I agree with this. Even someone born during the war would be going into their late 60's. Why anyone would hate a whole country and culture for mistakes they made decades ago is quite baffling.
No way! Americans like the Japanese. They make the stuff and we use the stuff. Inflating their own money only solidifies this deal, making Japan America's slave.

I suppose Europeans would be fine if Germany and Italy changed their history books to glorify the Axis...
Look how fast people were on Ahmadinejad's back when he made his Holocaust denial comment.
Japanese have some messed up attitudes in some regards, but in fairness to them

They did get double-nuked.

the deaths suffered by Japan in those two bombings are only a small fraction of the casualties inflicted on the Chinese during the war, between 10-20 million, as the two atomic bombs combined accounted for 250,000, that's less than the 1.5 million civilian deaths in Indochina, another 1 million in Philippines... the nuke card is a weak card it doesn't come close to fair, but I'm sure everyone involved would like to move passed this, but for that to happen the country needs to acknowledge the atrocities they inflicted and not be in denial that such things even happenedJapanese have some messed up attitudes in some regards, but in fairness to them

I got ban from random yokos facebook page, shes a blogger that lives in Japan. She said that Japan never did anything like the Nanjing massacrer. I told her off for trying to change history and she said i was brain washed by western prapaganda. She started to quote a N azi saying if you repeat a lie it becomes true. I told her that that line goes really good both ways then she blocked me.

quite right ol chum! Just because bad things happen to you does not make all the evil krap you did is okay.
Random Yoko, oh Christ, I heard of that bitch, I think the last OT thread about Japanese denial of the Nanking Massacre was in reaction to stupid videos she made.I got ban from random yokos facebook page, shes a blogger that lives in Japan. Compare Germany and Japan's handling of the legacy of war crimes and waging wars of conquest and you'll see the problem in full. Denial of the severity and extent of war crimes in Japan is actually pretty widespread in academia and in certain political circles. Some elements of the far-right in Japan actually celebrate Japan's conduct in World War II. In contrast, German law is highly restrictive of Holocaust denial or Nazism.
I'm not trying to trivialize the suffering of the civilian populations of Japan or Germany, but Japan has a serious historiography problem.
That does not fix anything, that just makes the people who droped the nukes an even bigger ass.Japanese have some messed up attitudes in some regards, but in fairness to them

I was just reading about this on AJE the other day. loool what an asshole. That said, hating an entire group isn't the answer.
Prostitution is bad when it consist of two consenting adults? Fightingfanit is when the government doesn't tax it ;)

That's just racism, lots of asians look down on filipinos, as well as vietnamese/thai/south east asia. Â This is more of just flat out hate

Mayor or not, that's one man. He does not speak for the rest of the country even if he wishes he did. I'm not gonna label or hate an entire population because of one or a group of morally twisted individuals.
for fvck sakes, I don't hate all Japanese because of this, but only that I'm saying things like this is what makes a lot of Asians hate Japanese. People here are idiotsI hate every single member of a country for things their ancestors did multiple decades ago.

How many german doctors and officers were hunted and prosecuted? Now how many japanese? I still can't believe the US simply forgave those animals, many of whom are now rich and influential. muscleserge
Don't forget about all the nazi scientists, guilty of atrocious crimes against humanity, who were moved to the US, given new identities, and put to work at NASA and the Pentagon. The Japanese weren't the only ones who got a free pass.

It's true...it's true.either way that politician should not have tried justifying the war crimes against women like that especially through the media, they should just keep quite like America. Can Asia get along already? WW2 was decades ago.

This mayor has been causing the majority of the Japanese to facepalm for many years.
i have no freakin idea my he was elected as mayor, but I am pretty sure that very few japanese support what this guy said.
Also, he already publically apologized and said that what he said regarding WW2 was wrong, but he thinks prostitution and sex industry should not be shunned.
