I have watched both and honestly some of the dubbed voices are better and some of the original japanese voices are better. It's a bit of a strange occurrence.

Then again, it might be a bit too excellent for you, TC. It really is on a whole other echelon compared to Dragon Ball. The story, the characters, and even the violence. Watch some other anime in the mean time.

Not really anime but Zoids Battle Century and Zoids New Century Zero are awesome and in english What I have seen that is anime Naruto (entirely english, skip the last 100 episodes of filler before Shippuden) Naruto Shippuden (about 40-50 episodes english, but they are up to 167 episodes now) Bleach (over 100 episodes english, but they are up to 267 episodes now) Full Metal Alchemist (entirely english) Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (follows manga closer than the first and splits off story wise about 15 episodes in) (just started the dub, they are only about 20 episodes in I think) Deathnote (entirely english) Code Geass R1 and R2 (entirely english) Ergo Proxy (entirely english) Neon Genesis Evangelion (entirely english) Darker than Black (just started this one, seems pretty awesome) (entirely english)

Why do you think it's mentioned so much? If you mean to diminish its perceived quality by attempting to depict it as mainstream, then no, good sir, no!

I can describe some of these if you like. Zoids Chaotic Century (not battle century) is a mech show but instead of the usual humanoid mechs, these are animal like. Boy find a mini mech that makes the actual zoids stronger and is out to stop the emperor from resurrecting an ancient and terrifying Zoid that destroyed a previous civilization. Zoids New Century Zero is set a few hundred years after the first series and Zoid battles are now monitored by the Zoid Battle Commission. This series is a bit lighter on the actual deeper storyline of the first but has some epic battles Naruto and Naruto Shippuden follows a teenage boy who 15 years before was sealed with a demon that gives him some stronger powers than most. Amazingly though, he starts off as the weakest and least intelligent in his entire village. But through sheer determination and awakening of powers given to him by the demon he becomes one of the most powerful Ninja in the world. The epitome of the Shounen anime stereotype, but overall a great story and some great fights. Neon Genesis Evangelion - I know people swear by this anime but I don't think I can truly recommend it. It can be very confusing at times and the last 8 episodes are so drastically different from the previous that it feels like an entirely different show. If you like mindf*^* this might be fore you Deathnote - this is probably one of the most lauded of animes out there. It follow a teen named Light Yagami who falls into possession of the Deathnote, the book that the Shinigami use to write names it, and eventually people die. Light eventually becomes the serial killer Kira who kills only criminals and those he deems unowthy of his new world. His counterpart, L, begins a battle of wits and creates a huge game of cat and mouse on a massive scale. To make things more interesting, Light's dad is the chief of police who is in charge of the case. Code Geass - Considered the closest to Deathnote in terms of the cat and mouse psychological genre. Lelouch is the disowned heir to the thrown of Britannia which has taken the area of Japan and dehumanized its inhabitants. He is given the power to look into people's eyes and command them to do what he pleases, but only once. He takes on the persona of Zero and leads several Japanese freedom fighters to fight back against Brittania and his father the emperor. All the while he must hide it from his friends at school. Also noticeable in that there are mechs used by the Brittanians and the Black Knights called Nightmare Frames. Awesome mech fights to be found here. Bleach-Ichigo Kurosaki is accidently given the powers of a Death God (shinigami) and is tasked to stop demon like creatures called Hollows from eating the souls of the dead. After 100 episodes, the show changes onto a new path with them fighting a new more powerful form of Hollows called the Arrancar which are thousands of fused Hollows that have developed a consciousness. Also noticeable is that a few shinigami have sided with thse Arrancar. Can't say much about Darker than Black but from what I can tell it is pretty solid.

edit: both are only 26 episodes and each episode is great, I liked samurai champloo alot more though because of one of the characters "Mugen" is just so badass.

Narutos excellent just ignore the Anime snobs most of them have never bothered to watch it. Shippuden is excellent to be honest.

The following post may contain spoilers.
I watched all of Naruto and have watched approximately 40 episodes of Naruto Shippuden and I just can't stand the fillers anymore. After Sasuke ran away, they showed 85 episodes of horrid filler crap right up to Naruto Shippuden. 85 episodes. Around 1700 minutes of ****. And don't say that I didn't have to watch them, of course I didn't. If one episode comes out once a week, however, then that is 85 weeks wasted. 85 weeks of waiting. It's simply not worth it. I also remember when announcements of double episodes used to mean that epic things were going to happen and yet they ruined that by sending Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and Yamato off to some hot springs in Naruto Shippuden. Great. Maybe you should reconsider calling people anime snobs for criticising Naruto and should instead ask yourself if you are a fanboy.
Looking for a new series to watch. only ones i've seen so far are dragonball/dragonball z and afro samurai. i watched an episode of FLCL but couldnt get into it. plan on trying again at some point tho. so any suggestions??

starwarsjunky

Okay for starters, don't start watching Bleach. The show starts off good for about the first 60 episodes, but quickly falls flat. The anime is especially poor because they will include 30-50 episodes of fillers whenever they feel like it. You can be in the middle of an important arc or some huge battle, and they will cut to filler. It really hurts the quality of the show when well over 100 episodes are pure filler.

If you enjoyed the DB/DBZ series, especially the original when Goku is a kid up until his teenage years, you will ABSOLUTELY love this show called One Piece. If you recall in Dragonball, Goku and company were not trying to save the world (like in DBZ), but rather they were more focused on exploring the world, meeting new people, etc. One Piece has a lot of parallels to the original Dragonball and in many cases, it does it much better.

One Piece tells the story of a teen named Monkey D. Luffy, who aspires to become the Pirate King. In his pursuit of this dream, he gathers a crew, all with varying personalities. Here are some details on a few of his crewmates: One is a stern swordsman, another a coward and chronic liar, and there is also a shrewd thief. The show starts off rather slow, but it picks up and keeps improving from there, never taking steps backwards.

You will see the crew make the transition from insignificance to some of the greatest enemies the World Government has ever encountered. The fights the pirates get involved in range from small skirmishes to battles of massive scale, involving many different parties. One of the areas that One Piece absolutely trumps Dragonball is in character development and plot. The author does such a great job of making you feel like you are in a living and breathing world by creating a lot of variety in both environments and character design/personality. The plot is very well thought out and the viewer can tell. For example, the author will drop in small details here and there that will seem unimportant at first, but have huge repercussions possibly hundreds of episodes later after you've completely forgotten all about it (creates many "OH ****" moments =P). If you do decide to watch it, you should view it in Japanese only. The English versions are highly censored and the voice acting is awful.

Also, if you enjoyed DBZ, Naruto is pretty good as well. Watch this in Japanese as well. Most animes have poor English dubs, so you are better off sticking to Japanese subs in the future (with some exceptions of course).
Full Metal Alchemist was great. The old one not Brotherhood.IWKYB
It's the other way around considering the new one actually follows the manga...

I haven't watched Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood yet but Fullmetal Alchemist is excellent, even if it doesn't follow the manga.
