Audioslave is the band with Tom Morello and all the guys except the singer from RAtM. Or something to that degree. I'm not 100% on the name, though. Actually, I've never heard any of there songs so I couldn't really tell you if they are anything like RAtM. I'm just guessing since they got everyone minus one they should sound pretty similar.
Don't quote me on that.

Yeah Audioslave is like a revised RATM... which could be better... the RATM vocalist was just annoying.

Their the same band with a different dude on vocals, but their sound is vastly different to RATM's
And RATM is not metal in any sense  (or similair to PE, those guys just spew BS politics imo)

I think I worded it wrong, not politically, lets just say they hate Elvis and John Wayne because they were 'racists'.
They certainly don't take on political issues like RATM did, so I don't know why you compared the two.

Maybe Elvis and John Wayne were racists, who knows? Doesn't seem so far-fetched to me.
I wouldn't say PE take on "political" issues per se but they were definitely one of the most socially conscious Hip-Hop groups ever and one of Hip-Hop's best groups period.
Night of the Living Baseheads 1988
Black Steel In the Hour of Chaos 1988

Hell no!
Chris Cornell is on of the best, if not THE best male singers around!
Rages vocalist didn't even really sing!!!
Don't get me wrong, I like me a little bit of Rage, but that statement has to be one of the most absurd things I have heard in a while!

Actually I wasn't disputing they (John Wayne and Presley) were rascists, it's very possible. But so what if they were? They still accomplished the great things they did, why are they suddenly horrible people once they become racists? In their time peirod the majority of white people in Southern US were racists, so it's not their fault, they just didn't know any better. Don't hate/kill racists, educate them. PE gave a totally opposite message, which annoys me.
They are socially conscious as you say, but they hover around the same tired subject. Slavery was a long time ago, those times are over and now Blacks have equal footing in society, so why dwell on the past?
As a Hip Hop group, they were incredible. That pretty much goes without saying.

They don't dwell on the past. They dwell on the present. The late 80s was the height of the crack epidemic. Hence Night of the Living Baseheads. And also the incarceration rate of blacks is much higher than that of whites even though the black population of America is only around 12%. Hence Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos. Public Enemy dealt with pressing and relevant issues to the black community. As of 2005 a black person is 6 times liklier to be the victim of a homocide than a white person. "Equal" isn't the word and to say that all they do is "hover around the same tired subject" is ridiculous.
And about John Wayne and Elvis. If they were racist and PE say "**** em" then I say right on. It's not like they were impoversihed hillbillies. These are beloved American icons, who happened to be racists.

Chris Cornell may be the better SINGER, but he wasn't the better vocalist in a sense. It was the rap/rock fusion of RATM that made them so popular (partly).

Of course blacks are victim to huge death-by-homicide rates, they alone (12% of the populous) account for just under 50% of the of the homicides in the US (as the murderers, not the victims).
I find it ironic how one of PE's songs was in 'Do the Right Thing', yet the message they convey doesn't encourage the same kind of inter-racial harmony that 'Do the Right Thing' did.
John Wayne and Elvis were of more influence than PE ever was, and disregarding them because of them being racist (allegedly) is a shallow way of thinking. It would be a different story if they had been American icons in say...the 70's or 80's where one had no excuse to have narrow minded racism.
Furthermore, their hate/blame shouldn't be directed at the white man, but more so at the mislead African-Americans that bring eachother down through crime and violence. I'm not saying they didn't do this, but they shouldn't of shifted so much of this blame on caucasians IMO
Ok there are no other bands like Rage against the Machine- They were a unique band withagenuinebelief in their political message.
There are other bands with similar elements thoughSystem of a Down i would say are the closest,as theyhave made politics their central agendaand have a fantastic guitarist but, they are a metal band not rap/rocklike RATM. (Another great political band would be Fugazi) Also at a stretch you could try early Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Faith No More for some similar baselines and guitar riffs but this is a loose connection!
Audioslave a nothing like RATM if you are looking for a similar theme you will be sorely disappointed, it was one of the conditions of Chris Cornell joining that he was in charge of the lyrical direction of the band- thus no politics (Tom Morrello Focused his political interests into a charity project called axis of justice with Serj from SOAD). Now that Audioslave have split up though and there has been a RATM reunion concert this summer + a few acoustic gigs who knows what will happen in the future!
BTW: When rage split up Zach was meant to have a solo album but it never materialised and is currently in distribution limbo, his sessions with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails are locked away, no one has ever heard them, though various tracks and collaborations with other artist have been released/ leaked and are worth a listen esp. with DJ Shadow and Roni Size.

the last letter of Night and the first three letters of Watchman make **** ;)
I don't think there is anything like them. I'm a big fan of RATM too. I think these artists/bands come close to Rage:

Indeed, which just means more dead black people and more black people in jail.

How can you get inter-racial harmony in a racially unequal society?
John Wayne and Elvis were of more influence than PE ever was, and disregarding them because of them being racist (allegedly) is a shallow way of thinking.Kritical_Strike
John Wayne and Elvis might mean a lot to white America but if you want socially conscious black Americans to embrace these two racist icons then sorry you're living in cuckoo land. That's fine to acknowledge their achievments but how are you gonna put a black person down for saying "**** these racists?" Not everyone can be MLK or Ghandi.
Furthermore, their hate/blame shouldn't be directed at the white man, but more so at the mislead African-Americans that bring each other down through crime and violence. I'm not saying they didn't do this, but they shouldn't of shifted so much of this blame on caucasians IMO.Kritical_Strike
Yeah you're right Public Enemy did look at the black community and tell it to get it's act together. That was one of the main points of their music, to make black Americans more socially and politically aware and active. I'd like to see where Public Enemy directed hate or blame at the general "white man" just for being white. They dealt with racist attitudes in the media, the racially unjust criminal justice system etc.
I don't think there is anything like them. I'm a big fan of RATM too. I think these artists/bands come close to Rage:
- Public Enemy
- Erick B & Rakim
- The Coup
- System of a Down
- Audioslave
Yeah Audioslave too, even though the lyrics and vocals are way different. You can still hear that its Tim on the guitar and the basslines of Tom are amazing again:) Just try those.rubenbos007
You just confused Tim with Tom bro.
Since when was Elvis racist?vitriolboy
lol
He was born in 1935 in the South. Itwas an assumption. And actually I don't think he was now from reading his wikipedia page.
Might be a stupid question but w/e happend to RAtM leed singer?
MaTt345
He went solo, as for the topic I would have to say Linkin Park. Though IMO they aren't quite as good that's about all I can think of at the moment.

Here's a nice quote from that page:
"[It has] been claimed that his early music and live performances helped to lay a commercial foundation which allowed other established performers of the 1950s to be recognised. African-American acts, like Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and Little Richard, came to national prominence after Presley's acceptance among the mass audience of White American teenagers. Little Richard commented: "He was an integrator, Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn't let black music through. He opened the door for black music." It has been claimed that the black-and-white character of Presley's sound, as well as his persona, helped to relax the rigid color line and thereby fed the fires of the civil rights movement."
