Fiction is plenty of fun too, don't get me wrong. Herodotus was an old Greek who is respectively called, "The Father of History", and by his detractors, "The Father of Lies." His 'Histories' are concerned with the period of about 557-479 BC, and some details about his own lifetime (484-425 BC) and his travels. It's one of, if not the first historical accounts that is kind of a stylistic ancestor of the modern style... with some obviously huge differences. Carl von Clausewitz wrote, 'On War', which is one of, if not the greatest, modern treatise on warfare. I like to run through 'The Art of War, then, Miyamoto Musashi's 'The Book of Five Rings', and cap it off with, 'On War'. Of course, right now I'm re-reading 'The Dresden Files' since I just got 'Ghost Story', so it's not all history for me. In fact, I read relatively little history... I tend to be more of a fiction and science/psych/medicine wonk.
I have read some of The Art of War, I always start it and can never find time to read more. Sounds like some interesting reads, I'm going to favorite this page and maybe this summer when I have time I can do some more recreational reading
