I'm mainly a cigarette smoker and my uncle handed me a Cuban Exile Cigar which I've now come to enjoy. I also plan to experiment on different cigar types and I was wondering if anyone else on here is a cigar smoker and has any brands they would like to suggest.

I do enjoy cigars and tobacco pipes but currently abstain due to certain current obligations in my life. As far as which ones I have smoked, I'm the type to rarely stick with a single brand. As such, the brand I might use depends upon my mood at the moment.

I used to smoke those crappy little swisher sweets and black and milds. No serious cigars though.

I suggest not buying cheap cigars. It seems that certain brands/flavors of cheap cigars literally will just make someone sick. Seen it happen and it happend to me with one flavor.

Go to cigars.com they have a really good variety or go to your local tobacco shop and they can suggest you some nice cigars. Cigars that are expensive are so worth it.

I very occasionally smoke a cigar... VERY occasionally... mouth/throat/lung/bladder cancer just isn't worth any more. My favs are H. Upmann's Sir Winston, Montecristo #2, a few Romeo y Julietas, and the darker Cohibas.

Like, a few times a year, if that. More than that, and I stand a p. good chance of unquitting again. I love breathing carcinogens, but cancer sounds less enjoyable.

Naaah... I like a good pipe now and then, although again, like cigars as an occasional thing for health purposes. It is perhaps daunting for someone as deeply NOT religious as myself to consider someone who is so clearly devoted to religion as you, and who has the mind to back it up.

It's absurdly cruel that carcinogens are so tasty, smooth, and enjoyable. A charred burger, a cigar or pipe, even campfires (not the taste there...)!

Replace the bible with Herodotus, or Clausewitz, keep the pipe.

Is it true tho that people who smoke cigars and pipes are socially much higher than your average cigarette smoker?

Cigars are expensive compared to cigarettes, so maye that's a factor, but a pipe until relatively recently has been a way to SAVE money. Pipes allowed a smoker to have a dedicated smoking device that conserved tobbacoo, and which you could then buy in bulk. It can still be that mind you, but it depends. As for addiciton, it's nictotine, it's addictive... not as rapidly addictive as inhaled tobacco, but ultimately JUST as addictive. I wouldn't recommend that experience.

Fiction is plenty of fun too, don't get me wrong. Herodotus was an old Greek who is respectively called, "The Father of History", and by his detractors, "The Father of Lies." His 'Histories' are concerned with the period of about 557-479 BC, and some details about his own lifetime (484-425 BC) and his travels. It's one of, if not the first historical accounts that is kind of a stylistic ancestor of the modern style... with some obviously huge differences. Carl von Clausewitz wrote, 'On War', which is one of, if not the greatest, modern treatise on warfare. I like to run through 'The Art of War, then, Miyamoto Musashi's 'The Book of Five Rings', and cap it off with, 'On War'. Of course, right now I'm re-reading 'The Dresden Files' since I just got 'Ghost Story', so it's not all history for me. In fact, I read relatively little history... I tend to be more of a fiction and science/psych/medicine wonk.

Its ridiculously good... the tobaccos are VERY rich, often if not always fruit-infused, the smoke is cool and... it's just amazing. Needless to say, it's all too easy to get used to the experience, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to try it, especially in a situation where you don't have to deal with the clean-up.

I absolutely love a good cigar, pricey but worthwhile. I've been smoking La Aurora's and want one of each different coloured cigar case. I want to try out a Macanudo but I can't get hold of one in Birmingham and as it's an American brand, I doubt I'd find one in this country at all.

I have read some of The Art of War, I always start it and can never find time to read more. Sounds like some interesting reads, I'm going to favorite this page and maybe this summer when I have time I can do some more recreational reading

Well, 'Five RIngs' is very short... you can actually read it online, 'The Art of War' is enjoyable IMO, but it is also a fairly ancient work. 'On War' is pretty modern (Early 1800's), but it's translated from German and very dense, and written as a dialectical work, which is partly why I love it. Just remember that it's a dialectical approach, and I suspect you'd enjoy it a lot. I wonder if you wouldn't enjoy reading, "Romance of The Three Kingdoms" as a prelude to 'The Art of War'... (it's not a romance), which might give you a better setting in which to imagine Sun Tzu's teachings.

They are arguably the only place I know of that sells good cigars, pipe/pipe tobacco and gear that isn't cuban. Are you from NC?
