I enjoy Stratovarius (to bad they broke up) and Sonata.
Never got into Hammerfall or those other bands.
I got dozens of guitars autographed by the guitar gods Dragonforce, omg they so good DrCoCoPiMpWhen they're in the studio. One of the reasons I don't like them is they can't put on a decent live performance to save their lives.
I really don't like how everyone automatically thinks of Dragonforce when power metal is mentioned. They do have a couple of good songs, but Herman Lee isn't an amazing guitarist. He struggles at live shows.
To incred_davis: Those aren't really(prog metal is still good though). If you like prog metal and like or can stand death metal then Opeth is great. BTW Michael Batio is an AMAZING guitarist.
is it like progressive metal? Not really. I had a hard time liking Dream Theater after constantly listening to power metal. Honestly, the only DT song I like is probably the most power metal out of all the ones I've heard; Constant Motion.
symphony x, mikey batio, malmsteen, dreamtheater...how close is it to that stuff?
i do like rhapsody of fire a little.incred_davis
Here is some awesome power metal:
Axenstar-Far from heaven
Blind Guardian-Into the Storm
Blind Guardian-Curse of Feanor
Hammerfall-Genocide
Last Tribe-The Uncrowned
Stratovarius-Eagleheart
Sonata Arctica-Caleb
Anyone else feel free to add more
To be fair, SA took a more prog approach to their last album. Here's Victoria's Secret/Letter To Dana (Acoustic, Live)Here is some awesome power metal:

Yeah Reckoning Night is my favorite album by them, but I do really like Caleb. And is being sorta prog bad? ( I know my thread's about power metal but it doesn't have to be 100% power metal)

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just thought it odd that you put a song from a more progressive album to highlight a power metal band. If you had made it In Black and White or Paid in Full I wouldn't have quoted you, only in agreement.Helloween pre-Chameleon is awesome (Chameleon album sucked), after Chameleon they got more heavy, but still good. Gamma Ray is also pretty good.
I don't like Dragonforce though, they somehow managed to make the guitar annoying, and every song sounds the same imo.
Do 'The Beatles' count as power metal?KrisG7
Why yes, I believe I've heard of a band of that name before... could very well have been power metal.
