Does anyone here like power metal? Like Blind Guardian, Axenstar, Hammerfall, Stratovarius or Sonata Arctica.

I enjoy Stratovarius (to bad they broke up) and Sonata.

Never got into Hammerfall or those other bands.

I have a distaste for power metal.

But I like DragonForce. I'm just kidding.

Not really. There is this one band though, called Dragonforce that I think the TC would really be into.

When they're in the studio. One of the reasons I don't like them is they can't put on a decent live performance to save their lives.

It's a meh genre to me (studio editting like Dragonforce to increase speed and technicality does not impress). Falconer's first album is great though, and Blind Guardian is a c1assic.

I really don't like how everyone automatically thinks of Dragonforce when power metal is mentioned. They do have a couple of good songs, but Herman Lee isn't an amazing guitarist. He struggles at live shows.

To incred_davis: Those aren't really(prog metal is still good though). If you like prog metal and like or can stand death metal then Opeth is great. BTW Michael Batio is an AMAZING guitarist.

Not really. I had a hard time liking Dream Theater after constantly listening to power metal. Honestly, the only DT song I like is probably the most power metal out of all the ones I've heard; Constant Motion.

To be fair, SA took a more prog approach to their last album. Here's Victoria's Secret/Letter To Dana (Acoustic, Live)

Yeah Reckoning Night is my favorite album by them, but I do really like Caleb. And is being sorta prog bad? ( I know my thread's about power metal but it doesn't have to be 100% power metal)

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just thought it odd that you put a song from a more progressive album to highlight a power metal band. If you had made it In Black and White or Paid in Full I wouldn't have quoted you, only in agreement.

o yea hammerfall ive herd before. i dig the vocals, dont like opeth or growling bands much. batio is why i started playing guitar, hes the living god of metal guitar. bucket head does some great stuff like whitewash and soothsayer. final wars is a power metal sounding song i like.

but yea now i see what your talking about.

Helloween pre-Chameleon is awesome (Chameleon album sucked), after Chameleon they got more heavy, but still good. Gamma Ray is also pretty good.

I don't like Dragonforce though, they somehow managed to make the guitar annoying, and every song sounds the same imo.

Why yes, I believe I've heard of a band of that name before... could very well have been power metal.

Nightwish and Sonata Arctica for pure power metal, but I prefer crossover with folk metal, like Alestorm and, more importantly, Slough Feg.

I feel like I'm listening to amateurs when I hear things like, "Dragonforce can't play live," and, "Dragonforce is a joke". Yes, Dragonforce is too often mentioned, but YES, Dragonforce is awesome! But if you ONLY mention Dragonforce in your list, then you don't know power metal well enough to be discussing it. Here are some incredible power metal bands: Dragonforce (you can drop dead if you don't like it) Freedom Call Gamma Ray Twilightning Sabaton Dreamtale Silent Force Falconer Rhapsody of Fire These are mentioned for sheer number of songs that are consistently high quality. How can someone say that only Falconer's first CD is good? That's ludicrous! Have you fools heard the song Dreams and Pyres? A majestic MASTERPIECE is what it is! And to say that Rhapsody of Fire has "some good songs"? It has many magnificent songs. But the thing is, you have to be interested in more than just a lot of electric guitars going at it. Rhapsody of Fire is strong, heavy, epic music with variety. That's the way it should be. Edit: And Megadeth, try Falconer if you like the folk twist. One of the best in this regard. (Not to mention some fantastic guitar work and a unique singer)
