Just curious.
I feel like I'm at odds people of my faith on political issues, and then at odds with people who share my political views on religious issues here on OT.

I'm here for you, but it seems that most people on this site that are Christians tend to be Catholic while I'm Protestant. Not that there are a whole lot of differences between the two, but still it seems worth mentioning.
A liberal is someone who wants a more governmental control on the economy and less governmental control on social issues. Liberals believe that the economy should be regulated by the government because capitalism, while beneficial to society as a whole, is fueled by greed and if left unchecked would hurt the lowest classes. On social issues liberals believe that the government should not interfere as much because the government should not try and control human thought. This can mean less censorship, more religious freedoms, and even legalization of certain drugs. I do disagree with other liberals on the issue of drugs because I believe that drugs that are illegal now should remain illegal. A conservative is basically the opposite, they believe in less governmental interference on economic issues, and more governmental control on social issues.:Di dont know what liberal means but i am christan.

like anybody really believes everything the church says. I personally think that being gay is not sinful, but I still consider myself Christian. Also I am liberal for now, but if liberals start acting like conservatives currently are you can bet I'll switch over.I think I am. I call myself Catholic but since I don't agree with everything the Church says technically I don't think I am Catholic. Does that make me a liberal Christian....? Yea I think so.

I'd probably be classed as a fundy and I think the liberal christians make the rest of us look bad because they cherry pick what they want to believe in then go live life like an unbeliever.
then again as fundies we get enough stick from everyone regardless

to be fair i think the liberal christians get the religion more then most, its suppose to be about loving and accepting people, not judge them and bad talk them under your tongue. Just my experience of course.

I'm not trying to strike up a debate about what is whether or not some branches of Christianity got it 'wrong.' You can click the "new thread" button if you want to do that. And i'm to see there are a few of us out there. I just feel like the people who i side with in one debate are the very people who fight against in another thread.THEN YOU DO NOT BELIEVE in the prophets you believe your miss led ways too get you in heaven[QUOTE="rook2rook"]

It's about loving and accepting people, yes. It is NOT about loving and accepting what people do. Those are two very different things. The Bible says to love your neighbor as yourself, but it also states that, as believers, we must recognize evil and call it evil; sometimes that means telling your neighbor, "Hey, this is wrong and you shouldn't be doing it." Telling somebody that he or she is wrong does not equate to judging or bad talking. Christians are often ridiculed because they make clear distinctions between good and evil. I believe that's something we need more of in this world.

Jesus ate with sinners, even when he could have spent his time in the company of the righteous. He never told those people that their behavior was OK, but he never judged them either. He simply loved them, and in doing so showed them there was a better way to live their lives. Christianity should not be based on a doctrine of laws, although of course such laws should exist, but it should be based on a doctrine of love. How a christian should act should be in accordance with loving God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind, and loving your neighbor as yourself. Two issues I have with your point: the Liberal party does not imply that they're "liberal" in the American ideological sense, it's only a name. They're more centrist than anything. Second, the Conservative party of Canada is nowhere near as overtly religious as even the US Democratic party. While there are certainly a fair number of Christians in the Conservative party (and the party as a whole is somewhat more religiously inclined than the other major parties) it does not surface much in their platform, and certainly not under Stephen Harper.Try Canada. A large majority of Roman Catholics here vote Liberal :O

Good and evil is based on society.. When a evangelical group attacks gays they say they are going to hell no matter what.. When one of those evangelical leaders turns out to be gay he goes to "rehab to get the devil out of him".

I'm somewhere between moderate and conservative. :P (in other words, socially and doctrinally conservative but politically apathetic)
Hyper-conservative Christians have crazy moments and I see very little biblical basis for liberal Christianity. (just how I view it, not that I'm trying to insult anyone)
