Well, seeing how I just watched it, I would recommend The Ballad of a Soldier. It's one of the best films I've seen in a long, long time. If you have Netflix, it's on instant watch.

What's the name of that war movie with the bomb defusing?

The Hurt Locker, I think. That won some awards. Not sure if it's actually good, though. I haven't seen it.

Michael Collins isn't the prototypical "war movie," but it's one of my favorite war-related movies I've seen.

If you want war movies the two must sees are The Brotherhood of War (makes Saving Private Ryan look like COD) and the origional All Quiet on the Western Front (It gives you a far different perspective of war ie the germans side :P)

True fact: 300 was filmed entirely in front of blue-screens.

Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down were good. If you want something more recent, The Hurt Locker is a pretty good choice.

Aside from all the movies everyone is sure to name (Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, etc..) you should really check out "Paths of Glory".

It's a very deep and emotional movie, and one of my favorite war movies of all time. I didn't expect anything from it in the beginning either..

The age doesn't matter though, because it's story is very interesting and deep. When I watched it, I didn't even know anything about the movie, or even realize how old it was. I have to thank my history teacher from my senior year of HS though. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have even thought of checking out the movie.

I'll check it out sometime, hopefully they have a copy at the video store so I can rent it.

Yeah, I realized that after watching a few more of his movies. I didn't really hear about Krubrick, as much as just liking him from watching his movies (Because to be honest, I appreciate and love film, but I don't look into it much).

My English teacher basically said the same thing to me btw :P. She was a film major, so she wasn't surprised to see I loved his movies.

Everyone already nailed the obvious choices, so I'll say Grave of the Fireflies. Your sig confirms that you at least have a passing interest in anime, so you might like this. Be warned: you WILL cry.

Defiance is a great war, very emotional. If your looking for a lot of war violence then there is 300 and Lord of the rings 2 & 3. LOTR 2 & 3 has some of the longest and epic war scenes i've seen.

That film is way too long. 3 hours and 20 minutes makes it a chore to sit through.

What's the name of that war movie with the bomb defusing?

The Hurt Locker, I think. That won some awards. Not sure if it's actually good, though. I haven't seen it.

Yep. Good film. Not as good as critics make it out to be, not as bad as the public make it out to be.
