With HBO and netflix, I've seen some good ones.

Strongly Like - Westworld (HBO), Game of Thrones(HBO), Longmire(netflix), The Expanse, Daredevil(netflix)

Ok - The Magicians(Syfy), Luke Cage (netflix), Jessica Jones (netflix)

Fading - The walking dead (AMC)

Looking for some more. Any recommendations.

Try Ash vs Evil Dead on Starz if you like that sort of thing.

Black Sails. It's about pirates and their affairs during the golden age of piracy. Quite a mature show with some excellent characters and an interesting plotline. Most of the first season is a little uneventful but seasons 2 and 3 were amazing. A vastly underrated series if you ask me.

Fortitude. Quite possibly one of the best shows made in the last five years.

Westworld is IMHO the best show currently on TV. The closest show I can think of to it is a BBC show called Humans which is about human-looking servant androids who start becoming sentient and the moral implications of that. Westworld is a very different show narratively, but it follows similar story themes.

Based on your preferences, it sounds like you enjoy shows with strong narratives that follow a story and don't contain a lot of filler. Drama but with action, and not shying away from adult sex or violence. Sci-fi and fantasy elements are permissible.

Based on that, here's what I'd recommend not in any particular order:

Orphan Black

Incorporated (new Sci-fi show that's pretty good. Distopian future in a cyberpunk genre setting of high technology but social divide between corporations and the lower class)

Damien (sadly cancelled. Based on The Omen films)

Hannibal (based on the Hannibal Lectur books, brilliantly filmed and astounding use of photography but also very gruesome)

Fear The Walking Dead (assuming you're not watching it already. Same universe but a good "reset" of the story with a new setting/characters)

12 Monkeys (based on the films of the same name. Not as high quality as HBO or Showtime stuff but decent if you like straight sci-fi)

The Exorcist (based on the film series. First season just finished. Good.)

Sense8 (excellent ensemble cast sci-fi/supernatural series by the Wachowski siblings of Matrix fame. Netflix original)

Travelers (really interesting sci-fi series about time travelers who come back from a horrible future to try to avert it by performing missions they get from the future. They come back by inhabiting the bodies of people who from their historical record they know were about to die, overwrite their brains with their consciousness, and then avert the recorded death. Netflix original/Canadian co-production)

Humans (BBC series described above)

Honestly there are soooooo many shows I can barely keep track. I'm considering making a google doc to track them all.

It's amazing. It's like HUMANS, but infinitely better. And, of course, it's HBO, so by default it's good.

some that haven't been mentioned:

Quarry - super underrated, one of 2016's best shows

Better Call Saul - Breaking Bad spinoff that is surprisingly great

Mr Robot - first season is great, second one goes off the deep end a bit

The Night Of - awesome mini series about a murder in New York

Taboo - only two eps in, but it has Tom Hardy in it and is promising so far

True Detective - first season is incredible, second can be skipped (totally different storylines/characters)

after watching the first episode of this I was pumped as hell for a awesome pirate show, but found the rest of the first season pretty slow and I never did watch the second.

if you say season 2 and 3 are better, I might have to give it another shot!

Definitely. It gets better and better. I'm now anticipating the 4th and final season coming out in February.

@sonicare: The Leftovers is AMAZING. The most unappreciated TV show of the past while. And with the final (third) season airing this year, it is a great time to watch it.

It is from the same guy who made Lost. So it has a similar feel, but utterly fantastic and utterly spellbinding from start to finish.

i never see anyone say anything about 'stan against evil.' i was never actually fully pulled in enough to try ash vs evil dead. it seems too hokey, & something you have to try too hard to convince yourself to keep up with at the same time. stan against evil isnt great, but i dont want it to stop. watch that everyone.

regarding hannibal; the first season was just some art piece. it was alot of fun to look at. it called for a sense that you should probably not encourage whoever was in charge of the visuals too much, but pretty to behold none the less. given that, it was a tad faint on substance. there was a break or something, i think there were only two seasons, after which it was only substance. it seemed like they were all of a sudden only able to try and mimic what was pretty about it's earlier self. problem with that was it was mostly only a retelling of the story already told in many other movies.

also watch emerald city. the star of that looks as though she is a collaboration of many fetching creatures. like hally berry, jessica alba, kerry washington, & michelle rodriguez did dbz fusion. more than her being a fair vision, she is rather captivating.

there was a beowulf show that was pretty good. i dont think anyone saw it though. is dead probbly. also shannara chronicles, i would like to see more of that.
