Ive got vista and personally I wouldn't (if given the choice again) due to the compatibility issues but at the time I was just desperate to get rid of my old computer (It was pretty old and I seriously question its ability to play doom in the state it had gotten in, not that I tried to play doom) and that was around teh release of vista so you can see what happened

I personally haven't had any compatibility issues, but there's nothing remarkably superior in it to XP, so it's your choice.

I actually haven't had many problems with Vista...only thing that I can notice is a slight response delay with the keys...however this is only noticeable if you play rhythm games.

Also, they completely screwed up the start menu IMO.

The only compatibility issues I've had, was with Command & Conquer 3 and Civilisation IV. Both times it was because I have Vista 64-bit. The Civ IV part was easy to get over anyway by just installing Beyond the Sword, and it works fine. Other than that, I've personally preferred Vista, I wouldn't go back to XP (though I wouldn't mind downgrading to 32-bit Vista), maybe that's personal choice though.

If you plan to do any gaming at all on it, then Vista isn't worth your time.

Actually I had one problem downloading a patch for a client of Ragnarok Online, but that is a user-made one, not an official one. World of Warcraft plays fine for me, as did Lord of the Rings Online.

I'm not a PC gamer, but for everything else I'd say Vista isn't at all worth it. I've had compatibility issues, it's extremely bloated, and the usability is a major step backwards from XP. Major failure in my experience.

I've been using Vista Ultimate for quite a while now and I've experienced few problems with it. I've had a few compatibility issues, but for the most part these were due to me having the 64 bit version, if you get the 32 bit version you'll have fewer compatibility problems (most of the 64 bit compatibility issues seem to involve programs like anti-viruses and firewalls).
