I've been looking for a part time job for a good two months now. I've applied to 2 Walgreens, 2 Randalls, 2 Krogers, 2 HEB's, 5 CVS pharmacies, 4 Best Buys, 5 Starbucks, 1 Gamestop, 2 Walmarts and a Target, and still haven't gotten a job. I'm gonna try some fast-food places this week.

Any tips?

I can't find a job either so I don't have any tips to share.

I tell you I'm having a harder time finding a job than a drummer in the 80s.

Do you have an employment help center in your town. Would be a good place to go to update your resume, get up to date information on job opportunities ect.

That was my situation last summer. I was lucky enough to get one recently, though. Fast food places might be a good bet, since they have pretty fast turnaround. Beyond that, I don't have much advice.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I've been looking since January although I was in school until a few weeks ago. So now I'm basically applying anywhere. Some people have told me to apply at fast food places, but man I've seen first hand how chaotic and frustrating a job like that can be. At this point though I guess you can't be too choosy in these economic times.

I got one question though. These days you can pretty much just apply for a part time job online without even going to the actual store/restaurant. My question is do they give priority to the people who actually use the in-store kiosk or it doesn't really matter?

I applied at Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts. I got an interview, but no hire. It's so hard to get part time jobs. especially in Michigan.

A lot of the places you listed use that one particular online application (can't remember its name) that has you answer all those personality questions. Let me guess, you actually answered those questions honestly and thoughtfully didn't you? That's why you're not getting callbacks. As it turns out only your "strongly agree" and "strongly disagree" answers count, and each company sets a threshold for how many of each you must have for the application to even get passed onto them. I tried applying to Best Buy for two summers and never got a callback, same for over a dozen other places. Meanwhile my sister just applied to Best Buy a month or two ago, answered only with "strongly agree/disagree" and got a callback a few days later. Same goes for my cousin. So give that a try and see if you have any better luck.

A career center or temp agency is all I can suggest search online for some in your city. It's summertime alot of places are hiring part time and seasonal positions don't be discourage.

I've tried. Hmm. That's interesting. I had about half "strongly" answers and half normal answers. I'll try that the next time I apply somewhere. Thanks!

And the employment center idea sounds good too. I'll try to find one.

Damn, really? I was told to rarely select the strongly agree/disagree options.

You really need to know somebody know a days just to get a interview. And after that you work your magic in that interview you should be good.

Answer what you think they want to hear... It just tallies what they want to see and you get a score. Never be honest, it just doesn't work like that.

Get other people to look over your CV's (resume) to make sure its PERFECT, preferably someone with experience, and make sure to stay off your butt and hand them out absolutely everywhere all the time!
