You are on the right track. The trick is to not breathe ever.

Either don't run, or expect to get out of breath.

Keep a good pace. You'll always end up tired at the end though.

Try a different breathing pattern. I was a terrible runner for a long time before I realized I was breathing oddly.Bio_Spark

Au contraire, breath as normally as you can. Also, don't over do it, let your body warm up a little before you get into the zone. Do not drink lots of liquid before you run, or eat heavily. Be well rested: a bad sleep will cause you to start yawning like crazy and will fatigue you more.

And... time yourself! There's no way to know if you are making any progress if you can't meassure your progress

Ho, and do not breath through your mouth.

Eat plenty of white castle, drink plenty of beer, hold your breath, and never stop.

I played soccer for 14 years and what worked for me was drinking a lot of water at least 15 minutes before running, don't run flat footed, and count your breathing (as in count 1, 2, 3, 4, then repeat).

If you're out of shape though, NOTHING will get you to last longer other than running a lot and getting into shape.

Also, make sure to stretch your legs AND arms before running. One other thing that *might* help is make sure you are moving your arms when you run. I knew some people that lost speed and became tired faster because they did not pump their arms when running.
