Well I'm sure there are many vids on youtube on that. Also there is the Zen of Screaming you could check out.

I learnt basically on my own without help, and all I know is using your diaphragm is key to screaming/growling. You gotta push with your diaphragm, never use your throat. If you feel irritation after screaming for a while then you are doing it wrong. And also drinking water helps too.

The ZoS I find is only good for starting out...never helped me get better.

I think the key is once you learn how to do it properly is to just practice and find how you do it best to make the sounds.

Technique.

Then just keep trying each one. I don't think there is a "best" to start out with. Death metal grunts are probably the easiest.

Do you smoke? If so I could say the same to you. I love Death metal and want to learn the techniques of the vocals/ I also play guitar though.

If you're trying to keep a good singing voice (for normal singing), you're going to want to avoid the really low growls, and avoid extensive screaming. Otherwise your normal singing voice is going to suffer. I'm fairly certain Garm doesn't tour at all, so as to save his voice.

If you have good technique you could do it for years without any extensive damage.
