Take a lump of clay and carve away everything that doesn't look like a car.

Well, if you are going to begin modelling i would start with sumthing simpler like a bench, or a table or a cup. Just do basic things like that to learn all the basics of the program you are using. Then once you complete that, try to ad more details to your objects and once you feel confident enough try to model your bed room. Just get the basics (bed, doors, shelves, wardrobes). Try to avoid non "mechanical" objects like teddy bears or action figures because organic modeling is pretty complicated for beginners.

Why all this work if you only want to model a car? Well, all these modelling techniques will become useful when modelling a car. A car is a mechanical object that has symetry so u only have to modelone half and mirror the other side. Now once you have he basic shape done, using all the techniques from making objects in your bedroom, you can then begin to add the finer details to your car. Remember that if you are making a low poly model it will probably take you 3-10 hrs depending on your skill. If you want a photorealistic car it will take u significantly longer.

here are sum links to get you started:

http://www.onnovanbraam.com/

This site had sum great tutorials to get you going!

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30263

This one shows how to model a car through box modeling. I find this to bemore user friendly and this is how i started and usually do it.

http://www.3dm3.com/tutorials/omegacar/

this is another tutorial that goes step by step, but only covers modeling the front of a car. But with these techniques you should be able to complete the rest of the car.

http://www.carbodydesign.com/3d-tutorials.html

here is a list of car modeling tutorials using different methods.

well, i hope this gets you started! Let me just warn you that you will not get a "great" looking car model the first time around. Sure, it will look "ok" but nothing amazing. U just gotta keep on trying. My rule of thumb is that if you dont have the skill, try to make it with the least amount of detail. Good skinning can often add alot of detail. PS, most of these tuts are for 3ds max, because thats wat i use.

I'm pretty sure bumping is against forum rules.

You should be able to find predone car models online. You may have to pay for some. I saw a short movie of a massive car pile up all done in 3D. The guy who made it just bought all the models online.

I think you should take the plunge and do it yourself. The interest is obviously there.
