Don't get it twisted, I'm not talking about that bubble gum teeny bop bullsh!t style that so many new age punk bands have embraced. I mean real punk.

There's only a couple bands nowadays that can be considered punk. Here's one of them. If anybody else knows of any bands similar to them I'd appreciate it.

I am very eclectic with my music and listen to just about everything and am always open to new music I haven't heard. It is the reason the thread "Rate the song above you!" gets so many post from me.

Dead Kennedy's are easily one of the best bands ever and are definitely my fav punk band of all-time!

Other good punk bands be:

Sick of it All

The Casualties

Green Day (screw the haters here, they have some great stuff and they have a punk enough attitude to not care what the haters say and do what they want to do)

I think it is important to note that nothing compares to going to a punk show though. Love going and seeing local punk bands play. The shows are always a riot and way better than paying $40 to stand and a hundred feet away from the band and not have a mosh pit going.

That's pop punk dude. It's a variation of true punk. If you really want to know what this author is referring to, try listening to My Generation by the Who.

However, I do not understand how you can find today's punk trashy. It's not really THAT different. It just has some alternative, pop, emo, or rock mixed into it...

True punk is largely irrelevant today.

Listen to everything huh?

Surrreeee Mr. "1/5" for "I Choose" by the Offspring (which is on their greatest hits album), and the Offspring has well over 2 million listeners today, and sold over 30 million albums.

You can't say you're eclectic and then dismiss the Offspring. Care to explain the inconsistency with that rating and this post?

That would be like saying you like metal, but you don't like Ozzy Osbourne.

Punk was really influential on all the music I like. So I bow to that genre, and to Disco.

I liked the Punk - Post Punk genre bending bands, like Joy Division, Buzzcocks, Ramones, ect.

A little bit of Clash and Ramones, not too big on them though. And if you count pop punk, I liked Green Day for the longest time (and to a lesser extent Blink 182).

You might like Zack De La Rocha' old band Inside Out. They were a hardcore punk band before he joined Rage Against The Machine. Rancid is cool.

Oh Boo Hoo, so I don't like that song, get over it. And yes Ozzy kinda sucks. Same boring voice in every song with 0 change. So monotone.

I dig into some of it, yeah. Bad Religion, Agent Orange, and Bad Brains are usually my go-to picks. Also enjoy the bastard children like blink 182 though.

People hate on pop-punk bands way too much. The funny thing is punk is supposed to be about being yourself and doing what you want, yet you have this rabid fan base that will curse you away if you don't stick to strict punk standards of music...

For about a year or so, it was my favorite genre, and I still greatly enjoy the general punk sound. The Ramones, The Suicide Machines, Discharge, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Crass, and Minor Threat are some bands that I still listen to quite often.

@k41m, For bands similar to Leftover Crack, you might like the band F-Minus.

Something tells me that the pussy pop punk bands nowadays aren't being themselves though, they are being what their record companies or producers are telling them to be and that is definitely not what punk is about.

It is a similar genre to my favourites (death/black metal) and I have been known to listen to Bad Religion, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and The Destructors from time to time.

And if they count as an influence on the genre, Venom is one of my favourite progenitors of the interrelation between the two major branches of rebellious, aggressive styles.

The big two at least are. Blink-182 started off as just being immature but then over time they went and made their music more mature and started digging into some more emotional material which was a pretty big change (granted they are hard to label as really being even pop-punk no offense to the band).

The Green Day hate makes me laugh though. Billie Joe is one of those guys who makes it very well known that he gives no shits what people think and the band has been willing to completely change up their sound on a whim. They are a band who just do what they want and you like it or don't. Probably have the most punk attitude in popular music today (which I know is kind of a silly thing to say being as popular music isn't about punk but still) and they have a good amount of punk influence in a lot of their stuff.

Now if you are referring to shit like Pink and Avril Lavigne with your statement I see what you mean. Those two use punk for fashion and nothing more and if anyone tried to call their music punk I wouldn't be able to take them seriously ever again..
