EDIT: I am not a heavy breather.. no one has ever pointed out to me. It is just i get nervous that people can hear me breath, no matter what.. which makes me nervous and i start taking heavier, longer breaths.

I have had this problem since I was young, I have always been self-concious about people hearing me breath.. i dunno why. When I walk past people I often hold my breath, I also have a habit of holding it for a long time when someone is coming up beside me. Quiet buses and taxi rides are the same I get nervous that I am breathing loudly which in turn makes me think more about my breathing and so I breath heavier to complete the circle. Going to the dentist is a wreck for me when I get the gas tbh, because it loudly outlines you breathing out i breath extremely long breaths in and out.. the dentist often has to stop and ask me if i am alright.

Anyone else get this?

No way! I'm exactly the same. One thing I've learned is that no matter how odd you think something you do is, there is always someone else that does the exact same thing.

I think you are just extremely self-conscious, no offense but, almost to the point of being clinical. Might want to get this looked at...

I'm actually kind of like you too. Not to the same extent, but I am very, very self-conscious sometimes. Over the years I've learned that most people don't notice 90% of the stuff you do and that's helped me some.

I think BlueBirdTS is referring to OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) in which I have sometimes. I think we all have it in one form or another. It's all in your head really.

No, it's not OCD. OCD is a bit different, although there may (keyword) be some relation.

No. I've never had that with breathing, but I get it when I'm eating crunchy things like potato chips. I don't want to sound obnoxious so I end up chewing them extremely slow.

No, but I can relate when it comes to runny noses. I hate it when I have a runny nose and need to keep sniffing during class or whatever because I hate bothering everyone around me. It's such a quiet environment, and I hate being the only one making constant noise lol.

No, but I think I am swallowing very loud when I drink sometimes...especially when it is really quiet. Then I think the people in China could hear me.

I'm very self-conscious about my breathing as well...partly because I have terrible allergies and I can never breathe out of my nose. I always get worried that people think that I'm some creepy heavy-breather or a freaky mouth-breather. I try hard to breathe quietly in and out of my nose, but it's hard sometimes.

I get it sometimes, depends on if I'm making out with someone or if I'm really stoned. Usually I get paranoid about little things like that when I'm stoned. Don't stress it, I know its easy to get caught up in self-consciousness, but who cares? Screw everyone else, especially if they don't like your breathing.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want people to hear you breathe.. Oh no, they'll find out that I need oxygen to live!!
