Its very rare that i like a band from the new genereation but coldplay is one of the few. Ive heard them since they were an indie band, with that said i was really ancy about there new album and single since they said it was "darker" I finaly hear the new single around 2 weeks ago and...:? wow does that song suck. It sounds so cliche, it falls completly into "whats hot" now catagory of easy non-complex emotionless songs. I decidided to give it another shot to see if i was being over critcal but the song is horrible. Im sure it will do well just because its Coldplay but being a pretty big fan of there music, im really disappointed. Anyone else feel the same?

Just as teams do what it takes to win, and businesses do what it takes to grow, artists do what it takes to sell. If that means going mainstream and abandoning fans, they are willing to do it the majority of the times

Im sure they would sell even without them pulling a Linken Park or a Metalica and dissing some of there early fans. Hopefully there album isnt so bad and is nothing like the single.

Coldplay has turned down multi million £ contracts to avoid letting their music be used in advertisements because they felt it took away from the emotion of their music. They don't do it for the money.

Im sure there no secret, popularity wise they are like The Smiths. Very influential, not mainstream popular but not indie/underground unknown as well.

Their first album is still their best; before Chris Martin's head got so big, and started tapeing himself.

X&Y is about as commercial, arena rock as you can get. I've heard the new single and it's decent; horrible album title, though.

Hits in the 80's yes....but most people I've encountered haven't heard of them.... One is either a fan....or doesn't know them.

It's the other way around. Sigur Ros just releases material too late.

It's an advert for their music, along with where to buy it. It's only available on Itunes though, so they can hardly say in stores now. It's a deal to advertise their album, not the Ipod or apple.

It's called cross merchandising. They advertise both.:|

I like it... I'm a fan of all that I've heard of it so far. I'm not saying I hate the old Coldplay, but I realized that a lot of their songs have the same verses repeated over and over again. Take Clocks, for example.

"And nothing else compares" and "You are" and "home, home where I wanted to go".

Alot of very great bands repeat there verse, Nirvana is known for it, and if a band is able to pull it off then the song is considered to be catchy just like alot of coldplaysongs.

Man, Viva La Vida is a really catchty song and the lyrics are so different from most of what you hear today.
I would usually think of Coldplay as Boreplay, but I do like this new styIe they are going for.

I love the new Coldplay so far, and I also love the old Coldplay. Violet Hill is a great first single, and I personally think Viva La Vida is the best song written in the past 10 years.
