after a few years you forget too much about them? I can't remember a lot of details, only the general plot and some of the story. I feel like I have to re-read everything. With movies it takes a lot less time to re-watch watch them, and you remember more details about the scenes.

I don't have this problem, really... I remember the majority of the books I read, and If I don't chances are I din't like the book much. I actually think I forget films more readily then books.

Not really. However, I do not read novels as you mention but theology books. For example, right now I'm reading through a commentary on the book of Acts.

I only hate them if I'm forced to read them for some reason.

I forget some details now and the, mostly because I read such a high volume of books in short periods of time (yay for being an English major?). But I definitely don't forget major plot points, and most of the events of the story stay with me for ages. And besides, there's no harm in re-reading! I take pleasure in doing so, in fact; it's good to return to a familiar story that I know for a fact I have enjoyed, and will probably love again.

I do not have that issue. I could perfectly recall the basic and most important details from any book that I have enjoyed in the past decade.

I'm the same way about forgetting the details but that's not why I dislike books. I just find them boring.

I love to read. I love picturing the scenes myself instead of having something auto-rendered on the screen. It gives me some form of escape and stress relief. Also helped me fall asleep better and get a more restful peaceful and pleasant sleep

Yea, but they are NEVER as I picture them. Not how i see the characters. When I read, I can basically fabricate the entire world, each character and their quirks and flaws, even to to sound of their voice (if described by the author well enough). I can even smell the scents that a book may describe. On a movie screen... my imagination doesnt need to work so hard, so I just stare at it like a zombie. I get more involved in a book. Plus, books are always different then the movie... more descriptive, extra chapters, more adventure or horror or whatever. Movies have to cut it short due to budgeting ect. :(

I'm pretty decent at retaining what I read. I mean, it's been about 3 years since I last read any fantasy book and I still remember the entire plot and most the chapter names. Recently, in the past 6 months really, I've been tearing through countless books on spirituality, theology, cosmology, and meditation. Those are very interesting to me so I easily remember them.

I love re-reading books. You're argument is basically like saying "I hate Oblivion cos it takes ages to replay and I forget most of it."

it can, but i still prefer imagining things myself. I get more into it, more involved emotionally, and more attached to the characters. Dont get me wrong, I do like movies, but I do really like books.

reading a book is about the experience not about remembering useless details. Another fail school makes by giving useless tests about details in stories wich actually encourages to just study some summaries(that include asked details) instead of reading the books.

I forget the plots of books sometimes, but I still enjoy reading them at the time. At least I'll have a reason to go back and read a book again if I wanted to, although I don't remember the last time I re-read a book.

No, I don't mind. I can remember quite a bit of the books I read if I liked them. Never re-read anything.
