Why are they charging you some 10,000 dollars just because you're an international student? Isn't it costly enough just to fly over from another country and start a new home and life? They have to make it worse by not letting you get into school because of some wild international fee? WTF?

They charge you since the government is not going to subsidize you since you aren't a citizen or permanent resident. University fees for citizens and permanent residents of a country are less because the government helps pay for them.

A nice thing about living in a border city is that if I chose to, I could go to at least one Michigan university and pay in-state tuition and such, while living and holding permanent residence here.

Actually its pretty fare, you're coming to another country just to USE it to your advantage. You should say thanks they even let you in here to study.

Because without them 99% of students in all schools would be Asian. My school is almost completely Asian as it is, my options for clubs and activities are already severely limited because I happen to not be Asian.

Well, if its a publicly funded university, I don't see how it isn't fair.

You aren't paying taxes... so you have to make up for whatever the government of the country is giving its regular citizens for education benefits. Why exactly are you complaining? You pay it either way, just one way is far more direct.

Sure, we're both in Windsor, and yeah we can drive over. I was thinking of finishing my mech engineering degree at Wayne State after I get my diploma, but tuition is still nuts! I guess I'll be finishing my degree at UoW, they just don't give as many credits when transferring as I'd like. Other options are unis up north, but I'd like to stay somewhat local; I don't want to move out just yet.

I think UoW got a new department head or something, and he looks more favourably on transfer credits. I've still got 2 and 1/2 years before i get my diploma and transfer to uni to get a degree, so we'll see how it looks then.

Wayne State was the one I was referring to. Journalism tuition isn't much worse than UofW's tuition for Communications, but I suppose other fields would have different tuition rates. And it's halved for a degree since, for example, I'd be going for only two years to complete a degree over there. Oh, and if you qualify for OSAP, they also cover Wayne State, so I'm told.
