Tinnitus is the ringing in your ear you hear after you've been to a loud concert, been hit in the head very hard, or had sinus problems. For whatever reason it came upon me last Wednesday night and I've had this horrible ringing in my head ever since. Apparently there's no cure and some people just learn to live with it the rest of their lives. It really, really, sucks. I never have peace in my mind.

I had made a firecracker (has a certain green substance in it :P ) the night it came on because I was sick and trying to get to sleep, but other than that I have been living ordinarily. I'm just praying it goes away. Anyone else had tinnitus before?

I feel sorry for you. No tinnitus here, and I'm very careful with my hearing, specially because I listen to music a lot through headphones.

My friend has that, constant ringing in his left ear. And yeah his doctor told him he'll have it for the rest of his life unfortunately.

I've had it for years. I don't know what started it originally, but it's usually unnoticable as I go about my life during the day. I only hear it at night when I'm trying to sleep and if I don't think about it, it doesn't bother me.

There are a couple of products out there that are supposed to help it.

sometimes after i have a hot bath i stand up and I almost pass out and hear ringing and everything else gets quieter

It is weird. I would tell the doctor to kill off the defective ear so i am deaf out of it, it would be better than the ringing

Ughh, I made a thread about this months ago. It got bad for me and it was all I could hear. I do not have a major case though, I do not know for sure about you though. For me at least, my problem was i focused on it too much and that's what made it become so loud, also your brain does make a bit of a frequency sound if you listen closely enough. So try not focusing or worrying about it so much and it might just go away.

You should use earplugs, the ringing will get worse as time goes by especially if you practice with your band consistently and it may also become permanent.

:o! I did not no about this.... kinda worried, with my sinuses and all? :?

Is it normal to be able to make my ears pop, pretty much whenever? And that my ears pop when I swallow?

When I was going through chemotherapy I had it very bad. It is one of the listed side effects.

Thank god it has subsided now, at least for the most part.

It was like the ringingsound after a grenade goes off too close to you in a CoD or BF game.

My mom may have it. Ever since we bought a rice cooker that made a high pitch sound when cooking, my mom has the ringing nonstop. She went to the doctor but they couldn't find anything wrong. :(

haha firecrackers are awesome, they'll definitely put you to sleep. I have tinnitus every once in a while in my left ear because of the way my amp is positioned in relatino to where i sit when i play guitar. Its really weird and really annoying...

I had it. It came from too much shooting rubber bullets(and gas grenades and flash grenades) at demonstrations in the west bank and tank noises in general from army service. it went away though.

Yeah, it really freaked me out when it came on because I've never had it last for more than a few seconds. It's been six days now and it hasn't let up. It sounds exactly like if you get flashed in call of duty or something. That damn ringing, just not quite as loud.

I went to the doctor and he thinks there's fluid in my ears due to a virus I'd had and a bunch of congestion. Now I'm not that congested and the ringing is still there though... :(

I may have to deal with this for the rest of my life too. Who knows? My advice to everyone else... be careful with your ears. Tinnitus is one of the worst things you can have.

Yep have had it for a long time. It's really not noticable unless I sit in silence and even then I don't tend to notice it unless I concentrate on it.

for people who had their ringing go away...how long did you have it before it disappeared? my incident was on new years eve...too close to a firework. that was almost two weeks ago and i notice it now. i guess i'm just looking for a time threshold. "if it hasn't gone away by XXX amount of time, then it probably won't ever"

When I'm in silent environments I hear a very low frequent humming in my right ear. Not sure if this is tinnitus.

Only after going to some epic punk concerts! I remember having to shout regular conversation with my friend while we were riding home after having seen The Casualties live. :P

Sorry to anyone who has this permanantly...

I have it.

Started around 2004, felt congestion in my ears, then the ringing.

Then one day I tried an herbal ear drop, and my head started spinning like mad and I vomited.

After that I had vertigo spells. Not sure if it was BECAUSE of the herbal ear drop or just coincidence.

The vertigo would happen once every few months, for maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour each.

Went to ENT, he said could be alot of things, could be virus I caught, could be Meneire's disease.

Over time the vertigo has stopped, I haven't got them in a long time.

Now here is the important part -

Assuming you have to live with this for the rest of your life, you're probably scared and miserable.

1. Eventually you won't even notice it. Seriously.

2. The speed at which you will acclimate to your situation is proportional to the amount you stress over it. If you worry about the noise and your ear, you will keep hearing the noise. If you just ignore it, it will gradually soften and you won't even notice.

3. Some vitamin supplements I found helpful : Vitamic C 500mg with Bioflavonoid, Magnesium Citrate about 200mg (this increase the T level in the short term but reduce it over the long term), Omega 3 fish oil, Ginko Biloba (small dose) Just get one bottle of each, and take 1 per day. When you finish don't take any more and see if you notice a difference. Clear this with your doctor FIRST.

4. In the meantime DONT WORRY ABOUT IT. Just take your vitamins and go on with your life. Don't listen to the noise.

5. I've found that brushing my teeth in the morning helps. Not sure why.

Best of luck to you and feel free to IM me.
