So in December of last year I quit my job because of the god awful working conditions. I have been looking for a new job ever since and still can't find one. I filled out so many job applications I lost count. So is anyone else struggling to find a job in this bad economy?

Yes. I graduated in 2007 with a finance degree. Terrible timing. I had interviews set up with both AIG and Bear Sterns before the crap hit the fan at each respective institution. A ton of more experienced financial analysts flooded the NYC market and I couldn't find jack. I was working as a pizza delivery guy for a year and applying to jobs in Jersey, NY and Philly. Most told me I didn't have enough experience. I manned up, moved in with my parents and got an internship for 9 months.

They finally hired me and gave me health insurance, but they pay like crap and have no training program. In December I told them I was moving to Raleigh because I hate NYC and they have me working for them from home down here. I'm still looking for an entry-level analyst training program, but can't find one down here.

Taking the LSATs in June. We'll see what happens.

I was going to apply for a photography job listed on Craiglist, but they require a wide angle lens, which I don't not have.

I've been trying to get another job for so long I forgot what it's like to be employed. I also have my bachelors degree and am at the point where I'm going to have to start applying at fast food/pizza places soon. :(

Yes, I am looking for one. But no one wants a part time teenager looking for a bit of cash, because there are too many of us:P

In this economy, it's not a very smart idea to quit a job until you have another one lined up.

apply at the US census... only an 8 week gig, but they pay around 16 bucks an hour and you make your own schedule.

don't really know the circumstances, bad working conditions could be harassment or unsafe conditions... I wouldn't put up with either as well.

nah, fortunately for me, i have one, but several of my friends have been looking for awhile. their problem is that they don't take much initiative, though. they'll apply at a place and wait for that place to call them back. i tell them they need to go to the place and ask to talk with a hiring manager, that that will give them better chances, but they don't do that.

I'm looking for a summer job at this point, and have been for the last month. I've only placed 4 applications so far, but haven't had any luck either.

man, i've heard some horror stories about that job.

basically the task is to go around and get people who haven't turned in their census to... turn them in.

now, some people are just forgetful...but some are willfully holding back the information because they are criminals, in the country illegally, and/or don't want the gub'ment messin' wit' their affairs.

i'veheard itleads to some unpleasant conflicts.

on topic...

i'm actually considering picking up a second job, so that I can get my debts paid off quicker. i would love to see this student loan debt disappear.

yeah i know a couple people that work with the census. if people dont want to fill anything out you just say ok and move on to the next place. you get paid by the hour, not by the form filled out. :D

I understand. But with the constant harassment from my manager and loss prevention agents and threats that I'll be fired made it impossible to work there any longer. They only wanted me fired because I was working with my fiance which they didn't like the idea of. It's not like I was getting paid well anyway.

If you're still at home so your folks can support you go for it. Otherwise I still wouldn't risk it.

I made the mistake of quitting my last job before I had another one lined up. Thank God I had connections with the library, or I might have been unemployed for many more months....

I am. And I want to add, you should not have quit a job in this economy even if it did have bad conditions. But you probably figured that out now. Anyway, I am a little lucky (finally). I am starting training Monday to be a supervisor for the US Census. Pays great, but is only temporary. I also have an interview next week to be a rep for Sharp televisions. That MAY be temporary, may not. But it also pays great. The perfect part time job to go with whatever else I can find, so I will be looking still for something permanent after the census job ends.

How many did you miss? Do you know?

I got a supervisor offer after missing 2 I think it was. And I was pissed I missed any at all, which the woman giving the test laughed at. I wanted to take it over.

I am lucky enough to be currently employed. But I do not like it. I have only recently managed to move myself, part-time, to the department I would like to eventually get into full time. Oh well at least its better then full-time at the other one even if I am doing both jobs part-time.

One can only crawl around under so many houses and deal with so many idiot people (customers) for so long. I have been doing it for 4 years and I am quite fed up with it.

I am also in the Low Voltage Apprenticeship program. What a freaking joke that is. I have to pay tuition costs, okay the company I work for pays it but still, for two years just to get a little card that says I am qualified to run wire inside a building. Its not that hard, a retarded monkey could do it.

So all in all yes I am looking for a new job. New job at the same company maybe.
