Anyone else think that the gamespot moderators take their job way too seriously?

Just go ahead and read the rules of posting for System Wars, don't worry I'll wait........... Ok now that you are back, wasn't that the most restrictive set of rules you have ever seen? I guess I understand If they put those rules in place for general games discussion, but this is the System Wars forum. Trolling is to be expected in this forum. Taking trolling out of the System Wars forum is like taking fighting out of war. People came to the System Wars forum specifically to troll. I really wish Gamespot would just let people be people and just be hands off. They are like the Nazis of forum posting. I hope a moderator is reading this so I can tell him to get a life. Quit being so controlling.

gamespot moderators don't make the rules. They just enforce them. Do police officers make the laws they enforce?

Actually it is quite impressive that they've kept the community how they wanted it to be. As of my knowledge they haven't given in to complains by the users. Now if that's wrong or right...

They seem strange at times to me, I've seen mods happily posting in threads that should have been closed IMO, and yet people getting moderated for highly questionable reasons or semantics. But then no forum is perfect, someone half my age questioning my morales will never cease to amuse me.

I'm not motivated enough to build a deathstar and set things right, so I'll have to put up with it :)

[QUOTE="oh_boss"] OMG you're so right!!! Not listening to the community is how all societies should be ran!

BumFluff122
Exactly! Enforcing rules is not what matters. If a rule is bad it's the person who made the rules who is bad. The people who enforce them aren't even contributing to the problem :L

If you don't like the rules, leave.

Theokhoth
Yes, if you don't like the rules you should leave :) Trying to make this a better forum is stupid, just leave if you don't like it xD

I know because if we didn't have them then everyone would be speaking their opinions and it would be such a mess :(

Yes, my science teacher said that moral superiority is "directly proportional" to age and that the older generation *isn't* the most bigoted/racist :D:D:D:D:D

I do think they are too serious about it,but I don't think that was the best example.

Yes, but the mods have the best chance out of all of us common users to get the rules changed if they are hindering the community or don't make sense. Clearly, they are failing in that regard.

The mods just enforce the rules, the admins write them down. The mods stab you with the pen used to write the rules if you break them.

I actually think they do quite well. They keep a good balance between of allowing for heated debates and pointless all out flame wars.

Of course, there is always room for improvement, especially with their suspension policies. I've been suspended for saying that China should ban christianity, where as you have posters saying all religions are blood thirsty, violent and harmful to the world, but they dont even get modded

Yeah I'm not sure exactly why this site is so PG. I haven't been suspended or anything but I had a warning or two for something completely undeserving.

I would like to find a game site as populated and busy as Gamespot's without the gestapo levels of censorship.

NeoGAF is, by far, the best game forum on the internet, but they have been sitting on my activation for over a year, it seems like they never take new members.

No, maybe it is because I have not been here aslong as some people but the mods seem really nice to me. System wars is a crazy place and has no affect on the OT so why did you post this? This is kinda like the real world. Police officers enforce the rules/laws and people get upset when they get in trouble. On the forums the mods enforce the rules someone gets in trouble and they want to cry foul. Like someone else said if you don't like the rules then you can leave. Is there room for improvement? Yes, there is always room for that but it is not that hard to stay out of trouble.

I think the rules are just fine and they're doing a good job. I don't think some of my moderations are deserved though...but seeing that I've been here since 2006 and I've done worse things than what I've been moderated for, I think they're alright.

Yes, they tend to get EXTREMELY picky.
