It seems that for the past 6 months, I have the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to games, I can never enjoy games anymore like I used too. I will for a day than I go back to work come back home, loose interest...

Anyone have this problem? I miss my old way of gaming where id love coming home to gaming now its just not the same anymore... EVER it seems

I have gotten like 20 new games in the past month hoping to recover my love for gaming, and its never there, so yes 20 new games are sitting in the dust at home... WHY? :'(

Watch a movie that somewhat relates to the game you want to play.

Sometimes I'll watch a WW2 movie and then want to fire up a WW2 game afterwards. Every time I watch The Fall of the Roman Empire I want to play Rome/Rome 2: Total War. Some good dogfighting movies get me in the mood for some combat flight simming.

So on and so forth.

Yup. Of all the games I have on my 3DS, I have only really played Animal Crossing... and that's not even a real game.

Yep, I know what you're talking about. I use to come home and play games for most of the day. Now I have a dog, responsibilities, and well, I've lost a bit of interest in gaming. At least console gaming. I play my handhelds a lot, especially at night when I'm in bed. I just feel like console gaming takes too much of my time. I feel like doing other things.

I have the same problem TC. Its has been happening since after Uncharted 3 (but alittle bit before that too). Got the game played the hell out of it, played the hell out of the multiplayer, but then (Early 2012) I couldnt find anything interesting to play and whatever free games I was getting out of PSN+, i wasnt even playing them. I try to start a couple but out of the dozens and dozens i only played like two and didnt even try to finish them (which is bad, cuz im one of those people who always finished the single player for all games I touch.)

For a long while the only game i cared enough to go out and buy was The Last of Us and I did buy it day one (June 7th), loved it, loved the multiplayer. But after 3 months I was bored and back to not having interest in playing anything I came across. Got GOW:A on sale on Back Friday, really enjoyed it but the multiplayer sucked and the I wasnt going to play through the campaign again (it was really good, but I wasnt all that interested in diving back in through all of that). I was gonna get GTA5 day one, but canceled my pre-order becuz I wasnt even excited for the game, I was pretty much forcing my self to buy it cuz I knew it was gonna be a big deal. Still havent bought it, still not that interested in buying it.

So I have was just have lost alot of interest in gaming (tho still looking and really excited for some games coming on PS4). Just been playing TLoU multiplayer, and thanx to PSN+ I finally got to play Metro Last Light 2 weeks ago (really good shooter, but weird story that gets in the way. It also reminded me of Resistance 3 which I loved thats why I wanted to try out Metro).

I am making an effort to play the good games I get off PSN+, and there are some really good ones i downloaded months even years back but never touched.

But TC, Jesus Christ man, why did you buy 20 games in a month knowing you had this problem? I was/am having the same problem but I stopped buying unless I knew I wasnt going to regret my money and was sure it was a game i would enjoy for a while. Maybe having PSN+ giving me games helped in not getting desperate and buying whatever games had a cool cover box art like you TC.

I went through a few month phase of doing that. Then one day magically, I put in Red Dead Redemption again, and just got completely obsessed with it AGAIN, ha. After that the ADD went away.

Meh yur jaded, too much of a good thing. Happens to everyone as they get older.

Hell when i was younger i would blow my load over holloween candy, once i got old enough and had enough money to eat candy everyday for every meal... turns out im not a huge fan of candy. Its just one of life's many cruel jokes.

And spoiler alert: its gonna happen for everything you like.

I've had a gamers block for the past 2 years. Hardly played anything new much at all because nothing interests me. I have recently got onto League of Legends and play a few matches a week.

Eh, I'm the same. It's just means you might not be as interested in video games anymore.

They're essentially time killers for me these days, so I very rarely buy them now (it's just a waste of money otherwise).

Maybe try finding some others things to help occupy your time.

I sort of have the same problem. I have a bunch of new games - but I seem to be stuck on the old ones. Rather than "learn" the rules for the new ones, I just keep playing old ones. Then I grow bored. But I when I do go back, I seldom pick out a new game.

because 20 games is a lot of games. I did the same past summer and I was underwhelmed. Just stick with one good game and you'll be fine.

I can relate very much to this. The golden age for me personally was during the ps1,n64,ps2,DC era where i could happily sit back and play for hours, since the ps3 gen ive done well if i can manage an hour playing.

Im hoping this current gen will reinvogorate my love of games.

ive got that with Dead Island Riptide. played it like crazy, then got to a part where i had to walk a long ways to get something.

ive lost all interest in the game. i try to play it every now and then, but just cant.

i also recently broke my gaming drought with Skyrim. Though now i have to do DragonBorn DLC cuz my Ranger perk fucked up on me. so gotta do DragonBorn for the skill tree reset. wanted to wait a while to do DB, but i really need that Ranger perk for my sneak archer.

Overwhelmed by too many choices. Seems to be most prevalent with people with rather large backlogs. I have quite a large backlog but I only play 2 games now, FFXIV and DotA 2 so I'm pretty happy with that.

I recently got back in the swing of gaming by going back and playing some classics (Super Metroid, Super Mario Bros, Ocarina of Time) etc. Maybe some games that have nostalgia factors for you will help you out of the rut?

I always fall back on CS1.6 and L4D2. Learning a new game nowadays takes too much effort for the reward it provides.

It has been that way for me, for over a decade. But it is not just me in general, I feel gaming has gone down hill for some time, too many bad games and rehashes of the same FPS after FPS. The games I am playing now that are unique and actually excite me, are games that were only available in Japan and are for the Super Famicom, these games interest me more than anything currently on the market; games like Miracle Girls, Panic in Nakayoshi World, and Spark World.

It happens to me a lot. I have about 80 games on Steam alone(about 20 more on Origin) and I all I seem to be able to enjoy playing is Dota 2. Don't even get me started on the PS1, 2, 3 and Xbox 360 games I have just taking up space and gathering dust. I do make an effort to play my other games, like most recently I started playing Persona 2: EP, but I get bored after a couple of hours and either quit it or go play another game.

I have so many games that I pretty much dedicated my time with about 5 of them.

I skipped the early half of last gen because of my gamer's block. I played catch up and now it's boring again. There is one game that I've always put a lot of hours in, and that is the Dead Space series. I love the horror, I love the Sci-fi, and I love seeing Isaac in pain.

That's how many hours I've played this past year. My Steam account is about a year old.

I think that's just called growing up. My advice is stop buying so many games. I try and only spend money on games that I know I'm going to spend enough time with... When you really spend a bit of time thinking about how many games those are, I bet you'll find there's not too many. I also bet you won't miss the games you're buying and playing once or twice at all.

@danyopizzle: Every couple of months I seem to get a couple of days where I just can't bring myself to play a game. But the rest of the time I can't stop myself gaming. It's weird. When I get a block I just spend a couple of days watching films or TV shows.

You are getting older. I even find myself playing less and less. I have almost completely stopped playing online video games because the quality is no longer there. Right now a lot of games are the same. Maybe its the genre you are currently involved in? Perhaps you might consider playing a different type of game?

I agree with your statement relating to the games that are highly advertised are usually the ones who struggle in the market. Some of the best games I have played had little advertisements behind them. One of the biggest things that irritates me are games that overdue in marketing. I am trying to enjoy a game, not watch an ad about PEPSI or McDonalds. It's what you make of the game itself. Then it all goes back to the developers themselves; do they take the time to make a quality game or have to constantly make half-finished games because someone in marketing wants that game to be released every year? Even Madden NFL finally got the hint!

Lately I've had the opposite... I've been more flustered on choosing which game to play more than ever.

Recently aacquired Mass Effect trilogy, D3 with friends and other multiple games on my backlist that still need to be beaten.

Plus I constantly play LoL as well.

it happens sometimes. means you just need a break for a while.

watch some movies/tv/porn, read some books, go out with friends, etc.

in a month or two, you'll be happy and addicted again.

@bowchicka07: Tbh my schedule at work changed, and I have more free time available, the fact is, with my old schedule that lasted 5-6 months made it hard to game during the work week due to the fact that I needed to go to beed early, now I can go to bed much later making it so I have more free time on a consecutive basis rather than just free time on the wknds, this way now, I can progress through games on a daily basis making it more meaningful and enjoyable and worthwhile

I find it helps to play games from beginning to end as much as possible, otherwise I might lose interest in one game I'm part way through to play another. I find it more valuable to stick to one game at a time until I'm done and move onto another. It can be a pretty overwhelming thing to dry to dabble in too much at once, just worry about things one game at a time.

@lamprey263: It does indeed! I beat bf4 campaign in 2 days and mostly focused on that, multiplayers imo don't count tho, cause theres no story or any significant progression like there is in campaigns, so on top of beating this game I was hopping online and woopin peoples butts and still got full enjoyment out of beating BF4

I GOT MY GAMING BLOOD BACK I AM JUST SO HAPPY, THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND FOR HELPING MY ADDICTION COME BACK lol :D

I think for seasoned gamers like 30+ yrs old we have been gaming for like 20 yrs now we've watched consoles and games evolve to what they are today, and basically any new game that comes out is nothing new that we haven't seen b4, so when we get a new game the wow factor either isn't there or doesn't last very long.

I'd call it "gamer fatigue" rather than "gamer block". Most of us have probably played every genre, sub-genre and everything in between, so it just doesn't do as much for us as it used to. It happens with anything. Do you like chocolate? eat a pound everyday for two weeks and your opinion will change.

I'm 20 years old and just started college in September. I think my gaming days are coming to an end. I don't get excited about any new game anymore. Even the day I bought a PS4, there was slight excitement but it was only like a hundreth of what I felt when I got the 360. I find that there just isn't enough innovation in the industry.

There's certain "gamey" cliches that are starting to annoy me and they can be seen in abundance in recent games like Thief, The Last of Us or even the upcoming Watch Dogs. Even the trailers of video games have a style that they all follow. I can't quite put my finger on it so it's hard to explain but it's kind of become a case of same old shit.

I played Xenoblade around last March and found that immensely enjoyable, ridiculously good and fresh. Played Blood Dragon and Metro Last Light in May and loved them. Tales of Vesperia in June and loved it. Somehow couldn't get into GTA and abandoned it halfway through. Really enjoyed ACIV. Hated BF4 because of how generic it was. It was just so fucking boring, it was torture trying to get myself into it. Enjoyed Pokemon. Haven't played a new game since 2013 though and have no desire to. The only upcoming game that seems to be any different and free from those mysterious cliches I mention is Dark Souls II and I just haven't got time to play that.
