If so what exactly they give you to help get rid of your acne and how long until it was all gone? And if you had scars did they go away completly too or is it still visible?

I've never gone to a dermatologist, but I know you can obtain various creams and such over the counter (i.e., without a prescription). I, err, had to do that for a while when I was a teen, lol. Besides that, wash your face twice a day, preferably with a specially-designed facewash.

It depends on the person. A dermatologist may prescribe medication in the form of pills, creams, or both.

I think OTC products and a cleaning routine work fine. Pills are debatable.

I do have bad acne, but not too bad. I never went to the doctors to get a prescription for my acne and it's clearing up. I've had it since I was 10-11 and I don't have it too bad now, though I'm 16 now.

I just washed my face with regular soap and water. :? The products for using to get rid of acne broke my face out more so I just said screw it.

-_- Thanks to my mom and my dad's side of the family for the acne problem, mostly my dad's side.

Used to have it. But just used a couple of brand face washing gels and stuff. Clears it right up.

Meh.. don't worry. Acne usually goes away when your around 19-21 yrs. If you think it is a big deal, you should go to a dermatologist. I am 17 and i just use a cream at night and wash my face with a good facewash twice a day. Never had scars though...

I have a few zits on my back and I went to a dermatologist and the nurse practitioner gave me some foam to put on my back in the shower, cream to put on my back after I get out of the shower and a pill to take once a day. It's working I guess, I don't do all the stuff I'm supposed to every day. And the scars...I have a few and I think unfortunately you're poop out of luck.

Yeah, I had a really bad problem with it for years even after using all kinds of over the counter crap. He prescribed some kind of pill. I don't remember what it was called (I think it started with a C, but that's all), but man did it work. It dried the crap out of my skin and I had to use lotions and chap stick a lot, but it stopped pretty much all acne immediately and even when I was done taking it (You're only supposed to take it for so long, then the effects stick with you) it never really came back.

That seems to be pretty common. I never do anything special to my face, just give it a good scrub every couple of days in the shower, and yet I rarely have blemishes or breakouts.

And yet, my brother who has always been careful with his face, washes several times a day, and goes to a dermatologist pretty regularly, had trouble breaking out all the time. I suggested to him that maybe he was just paying too much attention to his skin and so he stopped washing so often. When he did, his outbreaks were way less severe and less common.
