I've tried reinstalling it, yet it still does this same weird thing. Whenever I download something, nothing appears in my download window. It is indeed donwnloading, but I have no progress meter or anything what so ever in the download window.

Doesn't happen to me. Firefox works perfectly! And all my downloads are super fast with my crazy new internet connection.

Have you tried whipping it with your belt and calling it offensive names?

Yes, that option is checked, and I went to about:config and reset all the download options.

I had a similar problem where most files I downloaded worked fine but any .mp3 files would go straight to an old MP3 folder in the trash. Try searching for the files, it might be sending them to a place where you previously downloaded a bunch of files of that same type. After I changed the download folder from "desktop" to "desktop">>"downloads" (completely arbitrary path, I think you just need to change it to reset the default directory) it worked perfectly.
