I'm trying to figure out which college to go to in california (major is political science, probably minor in busines). Anyways, The top 2 UCs are UCLA and Berkley. I don't think I'm at that level and can't get into those (though my parents think I can, I don't). So I was looking at UCSD because that is 3rd of the top ranked UC schools. But UCSD is mostly medical, so I'm in a quandary.

Anyone go to a UC school here? Majors? Advice?

I go to UC Berkeley and I'm a MCB major. In short it's like really, really tough and no one gives a damn about you. :P

Do you have any specific questions though?

Ha, I'm an Undeclared at UC Davis. Any of the UC schools are pretty good, you should check to see which school has a stronger program for what you are interested in as well as realistically see which ones you are capable of being accepted into.

3rd year English/Rhetoric major at Berkeley. I was accepted to all of the UCs that I applied to (UCLA, UCSD, UCSC, and UC Davis). Personally, I don't think you should choose a UC purely based on its ranking. I chose Berkeley because the milieu appeals to me, and because Berkeley has one of the finest English departments in the country (tied with Harvard and Yale). If you can't get into Berkeley or UCLA, I would suggest UCSC, UC Davis, and UCSB... UC Irvine and UCSD are pretty boring schools.

UC Santa Barbra

UCSC

I know what UCSB is.  I have not heard of a UCSC though.  I assume he meant USC which is a private school and costs a lot of money to go to.

I fixed it in a new post. I know what USC is obviously. It was one of my top choices when I applied, plus I love their football.

You shouldn't think like that. There are plenty of brilliant people who come out of there and go on to top ranking gradschools. Undergrad really doesn't matter that much in the long run anyway.

I know I go to a cal state costs less than $2,000 a semester

Plan to go to law school after or grad school haven't decided yet.....

I meant if you had the choice between going to UCLA, Berkely, or UCSD  and Santa Cruz you should pick the the former.  Absolutely nothing wrong or inferior about the people who attend the school.

That's cool, but there are more reasons to pick a school than just rank though. Some people might prefer the atmosphere and don't want to deal with the heavy stress load, maybe it's closer to home, and I could go on. I'm just saying I wouldn't look down at other people's schools.
